I am seriously considering going with a new Infrant X6 for my NAS and to run Slimserver.

1. For those that are already doing this, have there been any issues or recurring problems?

2. My music is currently located at J:\MUSIC\_FLAC_DB on my HDD #3, and each album is in it's own sub-folder. How are/do you designate the music folder on the ReadyNAS?

2a. Is it flexible (i.e. you can name it whatever you like)?

3. Will it still read the sub-folders?

4. Also, can you update the X6 using the "dailies", or must you use the version of Slimserver from the Infrant site?

Thanks.

Any other comments suggestions would also be helpful. I am planning to set it up on my Linksys 10/100/1000 network (wired), connected directly to the switcher.

1) I have an X6 as a fileserver and looked into the feasibility to put
Slimserver on this server as well for a while. I finally decided NOT to do
it so I can not talk about issues and recurring problems.

2) Its my understanding that you have to copy your music to a predefined
folder on the X6

2a) Its in my opinion highlt inflexible since the OS on the X6 is not open.
You cannot loginto the box and configure it to your liking. You can only do
what Infrant allows you.

3) I am pretty sure it will read all the subfolders

4) You can NOT use the regular releases. You have to use an specially
tweaked Infrant release. Thatís one of the major drawbacks in my opinion.

My environment includes several local and remote (Soft)Squeezeboxen. The
stream of the remote ones are limited to 128 kbps to conserver bandwidth. I
never tested it on the X6 but I am convinced that the CPU will not be able
to handle the load (in addition to the regular fileserver activity).

For all these resons, I am keeping Slimserver on another server.
