Hi all

Does anybody have any idea when the Qnap servers are arriving in the UK? Do you think they will be any good or can anyone suggest a better option for listening with the PC off.

thanks

I ordered one a few weeks back and the last delivery promise was that they ship this week. Fingers crossed ...

I've heard the earliest will be after the 20th December now....

Surely not. It's been November, then w/b 5th December, then (confidentally) w/b 12th December. I'll try to get confirmation from Cooltopia. I'll be back ...

Hi,

The current situation for the Qnap TS-101 is that we will be getting a delivery leaving them on the 20th and into us on the 23rd December. We will be shipping them as soon as we can but realisticly we aren't going to get them out for Christmas but between Christmas and the New Year.

I have tried to get some units out of them early as the delay has been caused by issues with their front end software and not our installation (which is independent of their front end software) but it couldn't be worked out.

We will be shipping as soon as possible and I will keep you all informed on here as to when we ship out the first units.

I can only apologise for the delay but it is out of our hands.

Regards

Hey Paul, without wishing appear too impatient (but it is christmas after all!), do you you know if the Qnaps shipped to you yesterday?

I'm hoping my one will arrive in time to be running my New Years Party this time around....

Cheers

Paul

Well, hope everyone had a great Christmas...now back to work!

Paul did the Qnap's come in as we hoped, or are the delays continuing for a litle while longer?

Regards

Paul

well, advancedmp3players.co.uk, who are at least responding to e-mails, think they will have stock in on Friday the 6th....

If the shipping date has slipped yet again, it would be nice to get some official confirmation, especially for those of us who ordered for November delivery. I appreciate that new product deliveries do tend to slip and I'd prefer a working product late to a buggy one on time, but more communication might help ease the frustration of waiting.

Yeah, it would be nice if the page on cooltopia was updated, it still reads "Pre-order now for November delivery"

I'm waiting to order one when they are available along with either one or two SB3s (can't decide if i'll wait and get the bedroom one later)

Hi there, is there any offical word from progressive yet? I appreciate that its not possible to get one anywhere earlier elsewhere but it would be nice to recieve an offical line - even if its a 'sorry but its delayed once again' one.

Hoping that it will arrive in time for next new years eve party!

I wouldn't take any notice of the dates given by advancedmp3players.co.uk. They've put countless dates on their website that haven't materialised. They have excellent customer service, but are too eager to please sometimes by putting expected delivery times on their website that is too dependant on other companies or customs clearance that can cause delays.

Well, suprise suprise, but advancedmp3 are now showing an expected delivery date of Wednesday 18 January.

Presumably Progressive are back off holiday now and can add something to this discussion?

Yeah I see it......I got my SB3 from them when it shipped from Slim and the customer service is good but I'm not putting my money down in advance when the dates for the Qnap keep being pushed back.

I'm actually now tempted to use an old pc as a server instead.
I'll be able to add any plugins that I want and upgrade to the latest version of SS without waiting or even hoping that a 'special' Qnap version is made available.
Just a thought........

Latest date for Qnap delivery from Multitask Computing appears to be 21 January - firmware problem. Best to have it working properly with a delayed delivery though.

Same from Cooltopia. Delivery expected 21st January and they hope to clear all back orders by the end of the month.

Wednesday 08 February now. Is this ever going to end? Is Progressive ever going to update us?

Despite a promise the last time I contacted Cooltopia (after the last delivery date came and went) that 'they'd let me know as soon as they heard', I'd heard nothing so contacted them today to find out that they 'have now been told delivery will take place on 26th January' and that 'they don't have the resources to contact customers individually'. I know they are a small company and that they are reliant on Q-nap, but after 6 failed delivery dates and almost 3 months slip with no unprompted communication, am I the only one struggling to be patient? Even more regular posts here would help keep customers and potential customers in the picture.

Yeah, very poor showing indeed. I for one have cancelled with Cooltopia (Progressive Consumer Electronics Ltd) today. I'll spend my money on something else and reconsider when (a) the product is definitely in stock and (b) once the product reviews are in (and are favourable).

What I won't be doing is buying from these guys again!

Sure they can't contact every customer individually, but there is this thread, and perhaps their newsletter/mailing list which they have a signup box for on their front page.

At the very least, someone could update the page on their own website. It is truly shocking that they still have "Pre-order now for November delivery". although at this rate, it could still be true for this year!

A concern I'm starting to have is what resource will be available to keep the Qnap version of Slimserver in sync with the latest releases?

funkstar
2006-01-25, 07:20
from what Paul@progressive has said, i believe the updates to Slimserver will be in the for of a perl script that runs on the Qnap and downloads new new version. I don't know if this would be from Slimdevices directly or from Progressive. Presumably it would be possible to build a script that could log into the CVS/SVN server (i'm not sure what SD use) and pull down the latest release from there.

Fifer
2006-01-25, 08:16
That's good then; it should require no ongoing support. Thanks.

The way the script works is when there is a new release of the software there will be a Qnap version also. You drop this in the update directory that will be on the HDD and reboot the machine. An internal script will then pick up the file on reboot and install the new version of the software.

Fairly straight forward and easy to do for all levels.

Thats fair enough, sounds easy. I'm sure you said something similar to this before, i just missunderstood :)

Paul, who is responsible for preparing the Qnap version and making it available and will it be downloaded from your site, Qnap's or slimdevices.com?

ultra238a

Updates and Slimserver are nothing to do with Qnap.

Any updates will be made as accessable as possible. Watch this space.
