I am running SlimServer as a service on an XP box. I would like to be able to connect to the server and stream music even if no one is logged on to the PC. However, this does not seem to work - the server is inaccessible on port 9000 until I log on.

Any suggestions?

Service startup is set to "Automatic".

That's weird. What user is it set to run as? Should be "System" - that will cause it to run at startup. Do you have any software firewalls installed? They may block network access if no one is logged in.

It's set up run using my account, not LocalSystem. This is to enable it to access network shares that LocalSystem has no access to.

There are no firewalls (software or otherwise) between SlimServer and the machine I am accessing it from.

Ahh,
Now we see the flaws inherent in Windows... <<Help! Help! I'm being
repressed>> Unfortunately there are no easy fixes for this situation. As a
professional Windows developer I run into this *A LOT* especially in a
corporate network. In Windows the System account does not have access
to the network, although a service that logs in as a named user can access
the network it must be done using UNC conventions and not maped drives.
However you should still be able to access the port 9000 web interface.
Double check the user password on the service. You may need to setup an
account for the Slimserver service and assign it to the Local Administrators
group or create a Slimserver role and give it permissions to run as a
service.
