Does anyone know of a simple windows command line program that can record from a sound card input and write it to stdout (rather than to a file)?

So far the best I've come up with is a tcl plugin, but the docs imply that it locks other applications out from the sound card, which will defeat the purpose for me.

I have an emu 0404 which can loop back its outputs in software, so the appropriate util should mean I can stream all windows sounds to my sb2.

Thanks.

Could you use SHOUTcast? Refer: http://www.shoutcast.com/download/broadcast.phtml
It seems to imply that you can broadcast whatever Winamp is playing (maybe you can get Winamp to play line in?).

If you're using Linux, it makes the following statement:
"This archive is for advanced users who wish to source content on their Mac OS X, Linux or FreeBSD servers and feed the audio into a SHOUTcast DNAS instead of using Windows. The Linux version permits input from a soundcard in addition to MP3 files on disk. Please refer to the example .conf file included with the archive for more information on using this beta unsupported method of broadcasting."

So to stream your soundcard maybe you need Linux? (see http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18886)

This looks like it might be helpful as well:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?OtherRadio
It talks about streaming audio from a conventional tuner but only as an example of loading a source into the computer's line in, so presumably it would work for any line source.

Thanks, I'll look into it.

OK, so it looks like I should have been looking for line in to stream utilities, as these seem much more abundant.

I've just found this which looks nice: http://www.oddsock.org/tools/oddcastv3/
as it implies streaming in any format - ideally I want a lossless, or even uncompressed stream.

Ok, so snack is the tcl app, which seems to infinite loop whenever I try to record something (not compatible with my sound card maybe?)

I managed to create a stream using Oddcast and Icecast. But it's not bit perfect, and worse than that, slimserver connects, but the sb doesn't actually play anything.
