View Full Version : Seattle Event - Thanks Patrick and Seattle Sunglasses!

Hello,

I was the first customer at the Seattle Event, having simultaneously
braved snow, sleet, and rain to get there (well, the event -was- all of
four blocks from my workplace, so I'm not expecting the Medal of Valor
or anything like that...).

I appreciated the non-salesy and knowledgeable demonstration, the
product sold itself, and yes, I am still wondering whether I should have
gone for the courtesy SB 2 in platinum rather than black (being a
current owner of a black SB 1G)! I was also happily surprised to see
the gratis SB 2 was a wireless model.

For those who haven't seen the Squeezebox v3 in person, it's very
elegant, and the display is easily readable from a variety of angles.
It feels solid and well put together. The improvement in display
quality over the Squeezebox 1G (I skipped the Squeezebox 2) is significant.

Thanks again Patrick, and Darwin @ Seattle Sunglasses (nice place -- I
wouldn't hesitate to recommend them either, given how friendly the
ophthalmologist who co-hosted the event was).

Nick

Many thanks for the excellent deal and for making Seattle one of your stops.

Now, I have a v1.0, 2.0 and 3.0... I still have to convince my wife that I really need all three.

I'm enjoying listening to the French Jazz FM station while upgrading my Slimserver from 5.4 to 6.2.1 ... it's taking a long time saying "SlimServer starting". Is it importing the metadata and re-indexing my FLAC library?

thanks,

Al

Your help would be greatly appreciated if you want me to come spread some
joy in your city (Chicago, Toronto, Austin, Boston, Washington, etc.).

I need a centrally located demo location with easy public access. The event
in Seattle was a big success. It was a little strange to do it in a
Sunglasses store but Darwin and his team were gracious hosts. I was able to
speak to everyone in small groups which made the demos an enjoyable process.

Note that we added events in Las Vegas (during CES) and San Francisco
(during MacWorld). There is an ongoing effort to do something in Australia
and the Netherlands (without me).

Any reseller is welcome to contact me to discuss ideas.

Patrick

What kind of attendance numbers are we talking about? How are the events publicized? I'm in these boards every day and don't recall seeing anything about the Seattle event.

The event was promoted to my past customers who lived in the Seattle area
via a direct email and on our homepage.

I'll be in Portland on Saturday. See you there.

Hi Patrick,

It'd be great to see you in Boston.. I wonder if you could get a space
in an open area of the Copley Place or Prudential Mall or Faneuil Hall..
all ought to be packed with people shopping for the holidays this time
of year. How big a space do you need? Any other requirements?

Oh, I assumed in my last email that you were mostly targeting
new customers and would want a location with a lot of foot
traffic and visibility, but this is more for current owners?

I was the first customer at the Seattle Event

And I think I was the last customer. I didn't think I'd be able to make it at all, but the snow cleared up my afternoon meetings and I got there about 2 minutes before 4pm.

I also had a great time and it was nice to meet someone from Slimdevices after using their hardware for so long. I now have 6 squeezeboxes (temporarily, one is going to a friend), enough to have one for every stereo in the house. Previously I had 4 and kept moving one between my kitchen at home and my office at work.

For those wondering about location, I think that the open house at a glasses store (or rather, not in the middle of a mall) worked well. It gave return customers a chance to meet with the team, learn a few new things about the product, and share feedback. I'm glad that Slimdevices recognizes the usefulness of face to face meeting with existing customers and encouraged us to show up by running a limited deal like this.

Hopefully they make it to everyone's choice of city.

To all attendees of the Seattle Event, please accept my personal thanks for stopping by our location on a snowy and wet Seattle Day.

It was crowded at times but most of all I think everyone had fun. It was great to meet other customers and see each of you interact with Patrick and the new device. There certainly is a very special community spirit surrounding Squeezebox and I'm glad to have been able to take part in that.

We also appreciate your patience as you waited in line to check out with your new devices. Most everyone that attended left with a Squeezebox 3 and the promo Squeezebox 2 in hand.

Kudos to Patrick for such a generous promotion and thanks the entire Slim Devices team for their hard work and delivering such a wonderful and fun new product.

Hope to see you all again soon. Have a wonderful Holiday Season.

Regards,
Darwin

Shoot, I live in Spokane, I would've crossed the Treacherous Mountain Pass
(duhn, duhn, duhn), to see the demo in Seattle if I had known about it.

What was the promotion? A free SB2 sounds far too good to be true! When are the Slim team coming to York in the UK? We've got some very nice pubs here! ;-)

Marc:

I'd certainly be willing to brave the
401/QEW/Gardiner for that!

As Patrick indicated, what venue though?

Also Toronto in January, February, March or even
April might be a bit of a shock. Perhaps a warm
day in May...
