Judging from the screenshots it's VERY close to iTunes. Wouldn't suprise me if Apple servers them with a cease and desist...

The Songbird Media Player is a desktop media player, built atop XULRunner platform (also used by Mozilla Foundation’s Firefox and Thunderbird), and will run on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Just like Firefox, it will be open to extensions!

please slim..? make it play nice with the squeezebox..please(oh boy, that's sad)

Sounds like an ideal complement to Vlad's BeatDown server project.
Songbird could issue player control commands to BeatDown's web services
(XML-RPC and SOAP) interface. BeatDown could then use slim TCP protocol
to control the players.

And Mozilla XUL Runner is cross-platform. Interesting.
