Hi,

I am sure this has been discused to death...I have done a search, and have not found much in terms of fixes, final resolutions...are there any? Should i raise another bug or are there more than enough to cover this??

see email i sent tech support:

Hi,

I just got my SB3.Configuration:
- SB3
- Slim server 6.21
- Wireless G, WEP encryption
- WRT54GS AP
- Win XP Pro, SP2, Zone Alarm installed

Setup:
- DSL Modem <--> AP <--> PC - all wired connections
- AP <--> - wireless connection

I installed slimserver and set up the SB3 pretty easily and am up and running. It connected to my network OK once i set up the WEP key etc.

In my living room, using netstumbler on a laptop, or just viewing the strength in the system tray, i see that my wireless network is around the very good to excellent category of signal strength, speed showing around 24Mbps.

However, quite often i notice the SB3 losing connection. I have not played it enough yet to see if this happens during music playback, however when it is just sitting there, it quite often pops up with a message saying it can't reach the slimserver, goes blank, tries to connect again and then gets connected and goes back to say the clock screensaver.

I see similar discussions on the forums, ie :
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2330

If i sit in the same room, i can surf the net from a laptop with ease and apparantly no networks dropouts. So, i am led to believe the network is not such a problem and is not dropping so often.

thanks,
Brett

Sounds to me like the problem lies with your server, rather than the
network. You get behavior like that when the server is busy (either
with Slimserver stuff, or other CPU-intensive applications). What's
your collection size, hardware, and what other roles is your server
performing?

Chris

Brand new, home built PC
AMX X2 3800, 1gig RAM, epox mobo, 2, 250Gig SATA 1 drives

- Music collection is around 30Gig. Most of the time, the PC is idle, doing 'not much'....When i use it, i use it for surfing the net and doing some picture/video tasks, perhaps some work at times too...nothing too taxing, particularly for an x2 3800.

- Also, machine is relatively clean...it is not a totally clean/fresh install of winxp pro, but i only installed it in the last month or so and do not have much more than the essentials installed on top of it....

I had the same problem when I installed 6.2.1. I reverted to 6.1 and it's solid now. I don't know why or how, but that's how it is here. I doubt it's your server.

6.2 contains a web page which displays statistics of the server operation. This should give you feedback on whether it is a server problem.

Goto the web page, select "Server and Network Health" from the Help section and enable performance monitoring.

What does the Server Response Time graph look like?

You can also test the network performance to the server with a new plugin which is available here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=66366&postcount=37
