View Full Version : Powering up soaked SB2

I have just purchased a SB2 and I had it sent to a friend's address in the US who brought it to Brazil.

However, at the airport he had his luggage inspected and the SB2 was taken out of its plastic wrapper and was left without it. During the plane trip it seems that a bottle of perfume (which was also in a plastic bag before the inspection) broke and the liquid was spilled on the SB2 box (just my luck...).

My question is: Before powering up the box for the first time, should I open it and use some electronic parts cleaner?

(I know that by now the perfume must have evaporated, but...)

Any suggestions?

I have opened the box and checked the circuit board. It has not been damaged, so I powered up the SB2 and it went on ok. All I will need to do is to get a new case.

If the alcohol has evaporated, the player is probably ok and should
work.

And I bet it smells really pretty now.

Maybe this should be considered for when you release the pink SB3?

What happened to the case? Has the liquid marked it or did it get broken?

The liquid marked it pretty bad. I don't know how the original case looks like, but mine now has areas with glossy/bleached/matte (opaque?) finish.

I guess I'm the only one with a SB2 "Victoria Secret Edition".

Well, I suppose I can always order another case.

Sounds like the SB2 tie-died edition, from the '60s. You could dress it up with flower patterns :-)

Yeah bad luck.

There's some people on here who have done conversions and such with their boxes and thus don't use the case any more. Maybe someone could be charitable and send one?

Actually brand-new replacement cases are right
there on the accessories page.
