guys,

how about a specific forum just for "bugs" and technical problems/troubleshooting?

and another forum just to request and track new features, or changes to existing ones?

also, a forum to discuss changes made in each successive version of slim server. is there a change log btw? i would like something like what winamp does to reference.

thx, -mdw

bugs.slimdevices.com. many already treat it like a forum anyway.

developers forum
changelog: http://cia.navi.cx/stats/project/SlimServer or the checkins mailing

thx for responding, but:

shouldn't "beta" be for beta prerelease stuff, not for "in production" stuff?

meaning, i think there should be a clear distinction drawn between detailing bugs and problems with stuff in production, and discussing upcoming beta candidates.

and i think bug discussions should be a public forum, i don't see how to use:

bugs.slimdevices.com

as a forum. i have used php stuff i paid for, and they do this, and users can compare notes, which often helps developers.

i'm not saying ditch the official bug tracking system, but lets make them simpatico.

as to the links you give for the changelog, thats not really what i'm asking for.

look here at the winamp changelog:

http://www.winamp.com/player/version_history.php

simple, yet i am fully informed.

however, i would like a forum to also discuss them more in depth if necessary. while i appreciate what links u listed, frankly, its of no use to me, i don't understand it. i'm not a developer, i'm an informed user.

Feel free to discuss issues in the General forum if the issue doesn't seem to belong in any of the Forums. It has plenty of feedback. Its not clear that what you are suggesting is a solution to a problem, or a solution looking for a problem.

Plenty of bugs are discussed in the various forums (Beta, General, 3rd Party Plugins, Developer). Often they are fixed based upon those reports alone, other times bug reports are more productive.

There are detailed Change logs in the releases. Changes occur far too quickly with the daily builds and updates. Those living on the bleeding edge, look through the updates or subscribe to the mailing lists.

There really is plenty of discussion in the bugs area. Spend some time looking through some of the bug discussions. Add yourself to the checkins mailing lists. You'll see all changes.

One stop-shopping isn't always the best thing.

but i don't see how to navigate to it from the site proper...The changelogs are a direct link off of the download page on the Slimdevices.com site.

"You can read the detailed SlimServer 6.2 release notes here." with "here" linking to http://www.slimdevices.com/su_changelog.html

http://www.slimdevices.com/

"NEW SlimServer 6.2" which links to: http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html

Then, near the bottom "You can read the detailed SlimServer 6.2 release notes here."

This links to a list of notes for each release.

It is accessible from ANY of the software download links on the site, and is given as a link in any of the release announcements in each of the forums.

Go man, go! Contribute your first item to the Wiki if the change logs are not already there! But spend a little time learning what's out there first...

That lists changes for all official versions, just like the Winamp one. You can navigate to it by going to Support, there's a link to the release notes near the bottom of the page.

The release notes kdf linked to are generated on a much more frequent basis and are intended for developers & beta testers to get an idea of what's going on between builds.
