Hello,

I'm running slimserver 6.2 on a gentoo server. I've been keeping my album art in the form ARTIST - ALBUM.jpg until now I had a little bash script that would scan my flac collection and create soft links of the form:
ln -s ARTIST - ALBUM.jpg cover.jpg
So slimserver could find them. Today I read about the variable name for artwork. So I changed the name to %ARTIST - ALBUM.jpg (I also tried %ARTIST - ALBUM), I stopped slimserver, deleted the cache db, deleted all my soft link cover.jpg and restarted the server. When browsing by artwork NO cover art show up. when I click on an album only a few of them show the art at that level. I'm wondering if I should post a new bug or if I misconfigured something. Anybody got it to work?
Thanks for your help.

could you check the d_artwork option in server settings->debugging and try
browsing a few albums. Open a browser to http://slimserverIP:9000/log.txt and
it should show you information on the attempt to find artwork.

last time I tried it, it was working. Also make sure you have this set
for BOTH
artwork and thumbnail settings.

Look for sections like this in your log (taken from my setup just
minutes ago):

2005-10-27 16:59:03.2811 Looking for image files in D:\mp3\PETER GABRIEL\up
2005-10-27 16:59:03.2889 Variable Thumbnail: Up - PETER GABRIEL.jpg
from ALBUM - ARTIST
2005-10-27 16:59:03.2897 Image File empty or couldn't read: D:\mp3\PETER
GABRIEL\up\Up - PETER GABRIEL.jpg
2005-10-27 16:59:03.2944 Found thumb file: D:\mp3\PETER GABRIEL\up\cover.jpg

I checked my music collection. I only ripped 36 CDs so far. It turns out that if the artist or album name has one accentuated character the variable name album art don't show up at all. The one with only normal characters show up in the album view. So I guess I'll fill a bug report on that one...

Doh! I didn't realized that thumbnail was what is used for "Browse by artwork". Thanks kdf for the quick tip!
The ones with accentuaded characters are still not showing up, any idea about that?
Thanks again.

Haha! One step further. EAC and flac store the artist name in UTF-8 encoding apparently. Then Slimserver tries to find a filename UTF-8 encoded which it isn't or at least not what my linux box is expected.

Updating image for file:///home/music/audio/flac/French/Pop/Myl%E8ne%20Farmer/Innamoramento/Myl%E8ne%20Farmer%20-%2001%20-%20L%27amour%20naissant.flac

Now the question is: is there anything I can do to make it work? Or do I need to post a bug?

Thanks.

sounds like an old bug that was supposedly fixed. d_artwork will
hopefully show what is going on there. if you do file a bug, please
try to supply a section of that log showing the failure to find the
artwork. I have a few test files here that I can eventually try, but I
have a few other things on my list tonight as well. Filing a bug will
make sure it doesnt get lost.

best to file. include the log you posted, and details about the
artwork filename as it is stored on your filesystem, as well as LC_TYPE
and/or LANG info for your system.
