View Full Version : Is it me, or is the forum getting slower with every new announcement?

The forum keeps throwing me off, and there's only 100 people on it.

It claims there have in the past been 500 people on it. Did it get a processor downgrade since then? Did someone steal the memory out of it to put into shipping SB2s?

(is it written in perl?)

At the moment, the board says:
Currently Active Users: 68 (19 members and 49 guests)
Most users ever online was 543, 2005-04-11 at 13:27.

vBulletin is a php program. I suspect there's a pref somewhere saying "max simultaneous users". If so, it could really do with being set to something higher than it currently is!

The server is busy message could be a result of today's internet issues. Some of the major backbones were having problems.

People will refresh their browsers and attempt new connections, which can temporarily overwhelm server apps.

Just speculation on my part though.

The forum server is the same machine as the web, bugs, sourcecode and
list server.

It's a fairly beefy machine, but we did the announcement we stressed
it out pretty good. Dan's been tweaking process priorities, but
there's only so much you can do. It should settle down in a day or two.

What's the hardware, if you don't mind my asking?

There's an advantage living on the old continent - I'm asleep when you
fight for access to the server :-)

Perhaps you should rewrite it multithreaded. Or maybe add a database
backend. :)

IIRC, the 500 number came from the initial import of the mailing list
archives into the forum, where it saw ~500 unique addresses.
