View Full Version : squeezebox 2 still available?

Now that Squeezebox 3 is out, will the Squeezebox 2 be fazed out? I
kinda like the look on 2 better than the 3 (well, not exactly. Depending
on what system I have it hooked up to)

That's the plan...however we still have some SB2 around. However, at the
current price point they won't last.

Still avaiable - not sure for how long though.

With respect to WMA and Slimserver 6.2, I have a couple of questions.

Can you now listen to .asx streams? And does this work with only SB2
and SB3 or also with SB1 and SLIMP3?

Does this work on all platforms or only Windows? The earlier
solutions I recall to listen to WMA seemed like they were all windows
solutions.

You can listen to .asx streams on any platform with 6.2 and SB2 or SB3

For SB1 & SliMP3 - you need AlienBBC.

Really? thats a real shame the new form factor doesn't look great for
hiding the thing away in cupboards which is where I put them when I do
installs and everytime I look at the SB3 I think it would look great
hanging on a wall but not anywhere else.

I'm sorry to hear that the form-factor of the Squeezebox 1/2 is
going to be going away. In 2 of the 3 places I have them, the new form factor would not work at all.

The new format wouldn't work where my SB2 is either. Nevertheless, I do like the look of it and it will go fantastically well in a bedroom or kitchen. It just looks very out of place when combined with a hifi - wouldn't even fit in my case.

What is the detriment to carrying both form factors? Obviously there are certain instances that favor one case style over the other. Both are tooled up. Tech support would be largely unaffected since functionally they are the same. Hell, you could probably make the price the same on both units. So... why not offer both versions?

I've got one sb2 and was just gearing up to get 4 more for additional rooms, but the new form is very limiting in terms of placement -- having the form option would be awesome.

Stock, higher production costs for smaller series.

I have to agree.

I like the look of the new units, but they won't work in all of the places
that I'd like to use a Squeezebox. And I am especially curious if the angle
of the tilt on the new display is adjustable. The way it looks now, I think
it could be difficult to read if the unit is placed significantly higher
than the viewer.

So for what it's worth, I'd like to echo the suggestion that both models
continue to be offered. I think the new one looks slick, but it's too tall
to be used in some places.

I'm sure there will be people around willing to trade. There are no moving
parts in a SB so it's not like they're likely to 'wear out'.

I've two SB2 and personlly really like the new look. I'd be happy to swap
one out with sombody.

I too need about 2 more 'low profile' versions. Kitchen undercounter and
workshop. Please do one more run of SB2's. :-)

I can't afford my new SB's until the new year so Im sure stock will be
gone by then. Ebay is certainly an option tho, so I will keep watch
there when I have some cash...

One more question, can anyone at Slim divulge sales numbers for the SB2?
Probabaly not, but Im just curious. :-)

I'd be happy to swap too :) Anyone in Australia want an almost-new sb2?

What surprises me is that SB is distancing ever more from the separates hi-fi look. This new one would not even fit in my Home Theatre furniture... :(

I have the SB3 positioned a fair bit higher than my listening position and have found no trouble reading the display at all. In fact, I find the display a little bit easier to read for some reason. I think that the contrast between the brushed aluminium fascia and the display itself contributes to what I perceive to be clearer text.

No, it doesn't look like you can adjust the tilt of the unit.

Already many messages on form factor...I have received my new SB3 and I see the display also if my eyes are lower (sure more degrees lower than the 10 degree up of inclination). The form is really nice and because is wireless I have tried to put the SB3 everywere (near my bed, in the kitchen, and also in the bathroom). My old SB1 vs. SB3 seems so poor...
