View Full Version : Selective Play

I've had my Squeezeboxes for a while - one v1 and the other v2 - but
have only played around with them rather than used them seriously. I'm
about to change that just as soon as I can find the mains plug for one
of them! (Is it possible to buy a replacement in the UK if I can't find
it?)

That leads me to the first of two questions:

How do I persuade the Squeezebox to play any track from the root music
folder? If I browse music folders it lists the second-level folders and
I can hit play from there but the result is it obviously only plays
files from that folder branch. How do I play any track from the root?

Question 2 is, is it possible to do any sort of selective play? E.g.
Play all tracks that have the genres 'Rock' or 'Progressive Rock', play
all tracks that have 'party' in the comments field.

Thanks.

If you want them played randomly, then the random mix plugin will do this for you. You need the 6.2 beta or later for this. With the beta, random mix is under the plugins menu. With later builds it should be in your home menu i.e. at the same level as Browse Music, Settings etc. Once you've found it, go into "Select genres to include" and make sure that only the genres you want are ticked. Then press left to exit the genre selection and press play on Random Song Mix. By default, random mix will pick ten songs at random from your selected genres, then add a new one to the end each time a song finishes.

If you don't want the shuffled, you can go into Browse Music->Browse Genres and press Add on each genre that you want. This will add each genre to the playlist, at which point you can press play.

I wonder what is going on here, if you have something odd in your setup.

Certainly, when I Browse Music Folder I see both files and folders,
and pressing Play will play the file.

Me too. I obviously didn't explain myself very well - what I wanted to
do was ask it to play any track from any branch off the root. The
Random Mix plug-in seems to be doing just that :)

It certainly does.

It seems to be there now.

That works really well, thank you :)

Kevin (thinking now if only I could get it to also select or not select
based on strings in the comments...)
