View Full Version : Doubling up on songs in Slimserver 6.1.1

Quite few of my albums will have one or more songs listed twice as per the example here http://img331.imageshack.us/img331/1173/slimserverproblem2eb.jpg (http://img331.imageshack.us/my.php?image=slimserverproblem2eb.jpg). None of the inflicted albums have this problems in iTunes or Musicmatch or on my iPod.

I have tried uninstalling the slimserver and completley deleting the slimserver folder but it has made no difference. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to try from here as it is really annoying when listening to shuffled albums.

- update to at least 6.1.2, better 6.2 beta
- do a complete rescan
- if you still have that problem with 6.2, report back

I have reported this problem a number of times. It still exists in version
6.2 as recently as the 10/20 nightly. For me the problem occurs with tracks
that are in m3u playlists created outside of slimserver (e.g., Media Center,
winamp). Basically the problem results because my music is on a server and
each of these programs use different strings to represent the same song than
does slimserver. For instance:

Slimserver - \\MEDIA-SERVER\My Music 2\Alison Brown\Stolen Moments\Alison
Brown - Angel.flac
Media Center- \\Media-server\My Music 2\Alison Brown\Stolen Moments\Alison
Brown - Angel.flac

In this case, the only difference is the case of "Media-server". Other times
drive letters will be included and other differences. I have manually edited
the m3u file and when I make I change it the file so that it is identical to
the slimserver representation, do a clear and rescan, the dublicates
disappear.

So check and see if those tracks occur in playlists. If they do look at the
track information under song info for the dublicate tracks in slimserver. If
they are different in anyway that is the problem.

Cheers for this solution i will give it a go. Though my music is all just in the My Music folder within the d: drive, and i don't use any other programs other than iTunes.

I will also have a look at the track info for some of the duplicated tracks and see if that is where the duplication is coming from.

I run into this problem too and have raised this [1] bug.

Personally, I can't understand why slimserver will bother reading and
processing playlist files (m3u/CUE/etc.) in the music folder. I think it
should ignore all playlist files in the music folder when scanning.

Cna anyone suggest a valid use case when slimserver might need to
process playlist files in the music folder?

I have checked for m3u playlists and none exist on my computer, and as far as i can see in the track info there are no differences between the two tracks, as can be seen in the two attached images. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b15/meryvn/th_Track-2.jpg (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b15/meryvn/Track-2.jpg)

I will try the update to 6.2 tonight and report back on whether that solves the problem.

I updated to 6.2 last night and decided not to let Slimserver scan my music folder and just import the info from iTunes. After some initial problems where i found i had to set the music folder in Slimserver to the iTunes folder within My Music, i got all my music into Slimserver without any duplicated songs.

I havent built up the courage to let Slimserver actually scan My Music folder yet but i am happy letting iTunes be my library program rather than Slimserver.

Thanks for all your help.

I have had a similar problem with some tracks using version 6.1.2.

What appeared to be happening was that slim server was entering a record in the database reading from the tag and then entering another record using a guess from the filename. The answer was to clear all the Guess tags in the server configuration menu. This stopped the duplicate entries.

It only happened with a small number of entries and I couldn't find any valid difference in the way these items were tagged.

I am having the same problem with duplicate songs. Currently using Slim Server 6.2. I looked and like your "media-server" source the only difference is "\\Volumes\..." for one song and "\\volumes\..." for the other. The sources are exactly the same besides that. I have done multiple "clear and rescans" and can't get rid of duplicates.

Is there any solution to this besides the aforementioned manual change to each song?
