Nothing at all to do with SlimDevices, I'm afraid. ;-)

Can anyone recommend a good tool for obfuscating email address on web pages? I want to be able to generate mailto: links that still work as normal, but don't reveal the email address itself in the pages source. Basically, I'm imagining a javascript solution that decodes/deobfuscates an email address on the fly. I've seen one solution that does this (url now forgotten), but it was a bit more complicated than I'm quite sure is necessary and, IIRC, required going to a web page to generated new addresses.

Thanks,

Max

Sorry, that may be the place you've tried - it's pretty easy though.

That's the sort of thing I'm after, but I could really do with something for which the source is available. We have a lot of email addresses that would need encoding, so some form of automation is needed. Furthermore, I'm not really comfortable with the idea of handing all our email address off to an untrusted third-party.

Take a look at AddressScrambler, its Java script available via "downloads" at http://www.spamgourmet.com/

I saw an interesting study which tried different methods of obfuscation on a honeypot website and measured resulting spam levels. They found that something as simple as using a few entities (@ is @ for example) in the email address would fool the harvester. This was a little while ago of course, so it's possible they are smarter now.
