View Full Version : SlimServer 6.1.1 won't scan particular folder

I'm running SlimServer 6.1.1 on a Debian 3.1 box using the files and instructions from http://www.holmlund.se/slim/

The server starts fine and serves MP3s to Winamp fine (haven't received the Squeezebox yet). However, it refuses to scan one tree in my /shares/media/music directory, which I entered in SlimServer's server settings as my Music Folder.

It seems to get everything else for the most part, but everything under 'electronic and trip hop' simply doesn't appear in the library.

The paths are

/shares/media/music/electronic and trip hop/trip hop/singles
/shares/media/music/electronic and trip hop/trip hop/albums/[albumdir]

and so on. Maybe the path is too deep? None of the other paths are that deep, because only 'electronic and trip hop' contains three subgenres before the albums directories.

This is the only suspicious thing I see in the logs:

I set scan debugging to on, and these are the only lines in the log where the directory tree in question is mentioned:

what file types are in there? any cue sheets?
have you checked that all files in that location are readable by the
slimserver
user?

Okay, it was a permissions problem. In that tree only, the top-level subdirectories and a number of the lower-level ones were set to chmod 744.

Who knows.

By the way, now that I've postbombed my own thread enough, I must say that so far the Debian scripts/instructions at http://www.holmlund.se/slim/ are working swimmingly.

I'm not using MySQL, FWIW.

Wow, I so wanted it to be that the slimserver didn't like your taste in
music: 'electronic and trip hop' simply doesn't appear in the library.
