Hello,

I'm trying to wrap my head around these products.

Basically I have a CentOS Linux Enterprise server on the local area network.

It has about 10GB of MP3 on it.

If I buy one of these products will it play music straight off it over the network?

The Squeezebox is a "dumb" network device - all control, display, and
streaming functions are managed by Slimserver.

So, you'll need to install Slimserver on your Linux box.

If you want to try this out before you buy, install Slimserver and set
it up (basically, point it at your MP3 library).

The fire up a browser from a PC on your LAN and click on "Softsqueeze"
in the Help section. Softsqueeze is a Java implementation of the
Squeezebox so you can check out how it works before you buy.

depends on what you consider 'ok'.

use of soundbridge with slimserver is not officially supported by the makers of
slimserver, nor soundbridge.

I doubt anyone here has one, so you're asking in the wrong place. According to Roku it works, but according to most people I've spoken to, their definition of "work" is not the same as mine. YMMV. Bottom line - if you want to use SlimServer you'd be mad to buy anything other than a Squeezebox. If you're considering a network music player, you'd be mad to buy anything other than a Squeezebox.
