View Full Version : Various Artist Problem

I have a large number of single artist albums that are being misclassified
as various artists. These seem to be restricted to flac files. When the
album is viewed the dispay says 1 album is N songs by 1 artist. So slim
seems to know that there is only a single artist, yet it is filed under
various artists.

I have examined the tags and they appear correct and they are the same as
flac albums that are not misclassified. Sometimes these albums appear both
under various artists and the artist's name in browse artist view. Sometimes
they only appear under various albums. Some of these files have a single
artist name in the Album artist field and some have blank (but they are
consistent within an album).

This is using the 09-19 nightly (SlimServer Version: 6.2b1 - 4356 - Windows
XP - EN - cp1252).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of things that might help in my experience, if you have not tried them already:

1. Stop SlimServer and delete the DB file then restart SS and it will do a full rescan. This seems to work better than a 'Scan and clear cache' sometimes.

2. Do any of the albums have the same name - if so have you listed them in the 'Comman Album Names' section of server setting -> behaviour.

I don't use multiple items in tags and I don't know if that might cause problems if you use them.

I have to say the system is working fine on my WINXP SP2 server and is a great improvement, since I have a lot of various artist albums. SS and SB just gets better and better for which I am very grateful to all concerned.

Hope this helps.

No help. The problem seems to be consistent, in that it is restricted to
flac files and the same albums keep getting misclassifed as Various Artists.
I can see nothing in the tags though that would explain it. Maybe I am
missing something. The oddest thing is that some of the albums show up
twice: Once under Various Artists and again under the correct artist. Some
only show up under Various Artist.

No. They are all unique album names.

I agree that this is improvement. But it still is not working correctly, at
least with my collection. I would be happy to send a couple of the
misclassified albums to someone to see if they have any ideas what is going
on.

Steve - could you send me your slimserversql.db file - and the names of some
of the albums that are being mis-classified?

Thanks.
