View Full Version : Enhancement idea

Whilst lying in bed, falling asleep and listening to my Squeezebox last
night, I came up with a great (and probably quite simple) enhancement
idea. I just wanted to run it past everyone here to see if it seems like
a good idea.

Basically it's an extension of the 'Sleep' function, to switch off the
SB after the currently playing song finishes. I would suggest a press
and hold of the Sleep button to enable this mode.

What does everyone think? Please accept my apologies for my ignorance if
this is already a feature.

Makes sense to me. Does holding the sleep button do anything at the moment?

It does on _my_ remote. I have sleep.hold mapped to "power-on" so my receiver is powered on or off (toggle) but the SB2 is powered on (only) and thus is unaffected. (Uses the IR blaster plugin).

I can move this to another key, of course (Felix suggested search.hold). An enhancement to the sleep function is logically a better candidate for sleep.hold than is my personal "receiver-power-toggle." But this is another example of why I would like a few unused/programmable keys added to the remote.

I'm using it with a plugin to shut down the server :-)

If you use the Sleep function a lot, then you may want to look at the PowerSave plugin. You can configure the SB to shut itself off after X minutes of inactivity. The SB in my bedroom is permanently set this way, so I don't have to even think about pressing the sleep button when I get into bed.

....in fact, I have just looked at the PowerSave plugin, and it can be configured to shutdown after X minutes of inactivity after the SB has stopped playing. That's even better than having to press a button isn't it?!

Stuart.

My reasoning behind having my SB switch off when the current song
finishes is that I often listen to music while reading etc., before
going to sleep. When I decide it's time to go to sleep, I don't
necessarily want to shut off the current song mid-flow, but I equally
don't want it to keep playing for another 15 minutes.

The PowerSave plugin would be useful if I wanted to switch the SB off
after it's finished the playlist, but that assumes i'm listening to the
final track in the current playlist when I decide to go to sleep.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.
