This was on the end of my Podcasting thread but the title was misleading.

I'm running SlimServer on a Linkstation, currently using the 02-08 nightly of 6.2 which works fine. If I try any nightly after that date slimserver doesn't index my library correctly and only finds 7 Albums.

02-08 Nightly finds 294 albums 2702 songs 245 artists

The last build I tried was the 31-08 6.2 Nightly:

Completely removed the slimserversql.db before installing 31-08 and have also tried a rescan from the web interface with no change.

31-08 finds 296 albums 2707 songs 7 artists

and if you go to Browse Albums in the web interface it only displays 7 albums

Has the way slimserver is reading the MP3 Tags changed as if you Browse Music Folder from the web interface and the player interface all the songs are there.

If I'm correct and you're experiencing the same thing I was, there are other threads that discuss the problem. Look for Group Compilation, or Various Artists. (Sorry, I don't recall the thread titles.)

Try changing the options under Compilations in Server Settings->Behavior. You don't have to rescan when changing the second pulldown (its dynamic I learned), but you do the other two.

There are problems with the various artists or compilations grouping code as there is no obvious answer on how to handle various situations. I think it is being worked on and discussed still.

Only 2 of my albums are various, so I don't see how this would make a difference.

This is a pain as I would like to use the WOL feature but can't as it renders my library unuseable

Try copying server/Firmware/squeezebox2.version and server/Firmware/squeezebox2_19.bin from the latest nightly over the same files from the last version that keeps your library intact. I'm using this trick with version 6.1.2 so that I can have WOL and a functioning library.

Ta, i'll give it a go.

It just would be nice to know why the later versions of slimserver do not index the library correctly. Pain in the bum really.

There have been ongoing changes to the artists, trackartists, etc. code to handle grouping and multiple artists per track. Even though you only have 2 "various artists" albums, i'd still suggest you a) update to the latest nightly, and b) try scanning with the various settings I'd suggested, as well as the Multiple Items In Tags in Server Settings->Behavior. I'm betting you'll see significant differences in what you see now.

Thanks for the advice.

I will give it a go but it is a shag to rescan the library as it takes about 45 mins each time.

Hey guys. I'm having the same issue with my library not indexing properly. I'm pretty new to the forum and Slimserver so I'm not familiar with how to copy over these older files from a previous nightly.

Seems like I'm only seeing web index pages created for WMA files and even though I'm seeing more total songs listed.

I can manually browse to the music folder but the files wont play (error opening file).

My permissions haven't changed and it was working properly with 6.1
