Hello all, my turn to ask for help.

I had my squeezebox running perfectly and then last night decided to install AlienBBC.

Since then, I am not getting any output at all on either radio or my ripped music. I had it working briefly last night (both BBC and music), but today it has stopped again.

OK, now it is working fine, but I'll carry on anyway in case it stops again tomorrow!

I have run it with the --d_source and just keeps repeating setting maxbitrare to: 0

It does this over and over again, is this right, or is that part of the problem.

I think I fixed it this time by crashing flac.exe in task manager and now it is running again, does this sound right?

Sorry if this is a bit muddled, but I wasn't expecting it to start working half way through writing it!

Thanks in advance

Andrew

I had a similar problem when I first started using AlienBBC. In my
case, I'd messed up with the mplayer codecs or the mplayer itself or
whatever.

Did you download all of the codecs, and which folder did you place them
in? I _think_ they should be in the same folder as the mplayer
executable. (I'm not at home right now though, so can't check for you
:(

Thanks for the quick response, I realised I hadn't really put much information.

I am using Slimserver 6.1.2 with Mplayer pre6 in the Bin\MS... folder

I have put the codecs in a folder within this folder called "codecs". I have also put a copy of mplayer in this folder as well as in the mplayer folder just to be on the safe side.

I have AlienBBC working at the moment, but how long it will stay like this for I'm not sure, is it possible that flac.exe is crashing?

Also, I have left the DOS prompt loaded and it has set the bitrate to 0 about 100 times now, it just keeps repeating it over and over, is this right?

Thanks

Andrew

No idea above the flac.exe :( I guess something could be up, but I've
not encountered that exe before (it's never caused me any problems) so I
don't know what it is or what it does :(

Another thing that happened to me, which was indeed related to the
bitrate, was that I had no limit to bandwidth. I left everything at the
default settings and tried to run AlienBBC - it would work for a few
seconds (presumably until the buffer ran out) and then would stop. It
was resolved by setting a limit on bandwidth, by limiting the max
bitrate (I think). I started high, at 320, then came down until I found
one that worked ok. Problem is that this should only affect AlienBBC,
and not normal playback.

If it's affecting normal playback, I'd say it's got to be something to
do with mplayer. Any chance you can try a different version of mplayer?
Download a slightly older revision maybe?

Hi,

When it stops working, it does seem to be everything, not just AlienBBC.

I tried testing mplayer in a command prompt and that worked fine so I guess it is at the slimserver side of things.

I ran it in debug mode when not working and again when working and the only difference seemed to be it was quicker moving on from the Song Queue:0 when working.

Also, the constant repeating of the bitrate settings, but that is when working and not. I have set it to 320 in the Internet Radio settings, but its doing it on MP3 and AIFF files as well, is this normal?

Thanks again

Andrew

Just to bump this up, I have been playing with it over the last couple of days and on startup, most times I don't get any sound at all.

By closing flac.exe in task manager it springs into life though, I'm not too bothered about doing this each time, but was wondering if there would be a more permanent fix?

Thanks

Andrew
