Hi Folks,

Can someone help me with custom Shoutcast genres?

I'm running SlimServer 6.1.1 on a Linkstation. The help file isn't clear as to what directory to put the custom genre definition file in or what to name it - especially the extension.

I think the syntax of a given line in the file would be:

ProgressiveRock yes rush genesis elp king_crimson

does that look right?

Thanks!

Hmm... this is a rather unlucky moment to ask this question... In fact,
lack of interest in this feature we decided only one or two weeks ago to
get rid of it in 6.2. It added some unnecessary complexity to the sorting
of the stream list.

A while back, when I started working on the plugin (I'm not it's author),
I asked in the forum for an example file from a user who's actually using
this - and I never got one. That feature therefore has been untested for
months and quite a few releases. Even its author told me that he never
used it.

So far for the facts. Now let's see if you really want it ;-).

No, this wouldn't help in what you'd like to do. It's rather like this:

ProgressiveRock progressive_rock progrock

It tried to group streams which already contained one of the second to Xth
expression ("progressive rock", "progrock" etc.) in the line to the genre
defined as the first expression. But it only worked on the genres that
were defined with the stream. yes, rush, genesis etc. would have worked if
the station's DJ had put them into the genre definition.

Believe me: there aren't many streams that would match your example. I've
had a look a that list quite a few times. And I'm interested in progrock,
too. But there are very little streams which play progressive rock and not
something like "progressive house" :-(

BTW: if you'd like to change the genre in spite of this, you can try your
luck at about line 65. The variable %genre_aka contains what is used
today. The format should be quite obvious.

Please let me know what you think about this. Others meant, once they
understood how it worked, that after all it wasn't that useful :-).

Regards,
