All,
Just bought and installed a new SB2. I can connect to my network and server OK, and even play stuff off the SqueezeNetwork. However, when I try and play an mp3/wma/wav from the slimserver I get no sound. It just sits there showing the 'now playing' info but without sound and without the output wave/bar thingy going up or down (its just blank).
SoftSqueeze works just fine.
all software installed fresh from the website a couple of days ago.
Windows XP
Any thoughts ??

What version of the server are you using?
What OS are you on?

Playback issues are a tough one to just guess. However, there is some debug
output that you can generate to help find the exact problem. Go into server
settings->debugging (in the webUI). Check d_source and click "CHANGE". Now,
at the top, you will see a paragraph of text, ending with a link to log.txt.
Click on that and it will open a new browser window. Now try playing one of
those problematic tracks. The new window will refresh every 30 s and will show
detailed info on the process of playing a song. Look for things like "found
command..." and "using command", or any error-looking messages.

You can paste a section of that log here if the cause doesn't look obvious to
you.

cheers,
kdf

That just means no silly "progress" mesages from the flac encoder. Since this is
all in the background, its just a waste of output :) No worries in what I'm
seeing there.

ok, so step back a sec. I just realised you said you can play from
squeezenetwork but home. Have you tried turning the volume up? The prefs for
SqueezeNetwork and slimserver are different, so you wont have the same volume
level.

Otherwise, try the next bit of the log. That shows the right command, now
you'll want the next bit so that we can see the playback progress.

SORTED !
I installed slimserver about a week ago and was playing with softsqueeze - installing AlienBBC, Test Match Special (that author needs a knighthood!) and others. Everything worked fine - but when I connected up my new SB2 when it arrived, I got no sound.

Tried the old chestnut of uninstall>reinstall (but didn't even remove the directory and so all the plugins remained). Now works fine, including all the plugins!

Dont know what I must have done to kill it first time round.... but its all sorted now !

Thanks for the time taking a look (and i'm sure the reporting capabilities will come in handy now I know about them..). Off to buy a Perl book today as I want to code a plugin to give the latest premiership scores... wish a newbie luck !
