I tried using the search feature but couldn't find an answer, or didn't use the right search terms.
Anyway, I've tried making a few AACs with Nero and foobar, with the nero plugin. They are .mp4 or .m4a. Why won't they play? Are these protected files?
BTW, they show up im my music folder in Slimserver.

Thanks!

they should play, at least I expect they would. Have you looked at
d_source debug output?
server settings->debugging

then load: http://yourserverIP:9000/log.txt

when you play a track, it will show you what might be going wrong. You
might need LAME installed if you are using an http client, or slimp3.
You might need a decoder if you are using linux.

Sorry, should've mentioned I'm in XP with a SB2.

I'll go ahead and try debugging now...

Thanks.

Well, I'm not quite sure what to look for in the log. I've been trying to compare what it says when I play one format vs another. While I do that...

Do I need to have certain File Types checked in the server settings? I was also wondering, are AACs converted to mp3 for playback? Or is AAC decoded by the server and sent as PCM? Or some other way? BTW, I have Lame installed.

Thanks again!

look for the information where is says "found command" and using
command for playback. On XP, this will involve mov123.exe

for SB2, the server will decode to FLAC. File types, you'll want to
make sure AAC->FLAC is checked at least.

something is getting lost, I'm guessing. if you open up a command
prompt, do you see anything in the way of errors when you run:

mov123 is probably having a problem with the m4a file for some reason.
you'll likely see messages in the command prompt window when you try
it.

Yep, when I run it I get:

Failed at line: 279
Conversion failed with error: -43

So something's wrong with the way I made my AACs? Unless it's mov123, but I don't see how that could be.

mov123 is reporting something it doesn't like, but I don't know any of
the error numbers offhand. Hopefully Dean or Vidur can answer this
one, or you could file this information as part of a bug report at
http://bugs.slimdevices.com or contact support (AT) slimdevices (DOT) com

Are you able to play other AAC files properly? One thing posted elsewhere about
AAC's is to download the latest version of Quicktime and install that. mov123
relies on libraries included in that package. If other AAC files play fine for
you, it may be that Nero is producing AAC's with newer versions of the codec.
Hopefully that may help.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't have any other AAC files, I was just experimenting with Nero.

I'll look at installing Quicktime. And maybe converting more files to AAC but with different settings...
