I've installed SlimServer as per instructions in Mattias Holmlund's startup script 3, however it doesn't start automatically (as expected) when the machine boots.

When I log into the desktop as an ordinary user, I cannot connect to the web interface and no SlimServer process is running.

I can, however, start SlimServer, connect to the web interface etc. by typing (as root):

/etc/init.d/slimserver start

So at least I know it does run.

Any ideas why it might not be starting automatically?

Be sure the script is linked in the appropriate /etc/rc.X/ folder. You
might need to run (as root):
update-rc.d slimserver defaults

Thanks - that worked!

Funny thing was that I had issued the 'update-rc.d' command several times whilst trying to get it to work. I guess there must have been a few other things wrong at the time.
