Hi, I've got a PIII 600 with 512MB RAM running Debian. Since my upgrade to Slimserver 6.1.1 I've been having problems with the slimserver crashing when scanning (or rescanning) my music directory.

I've run slimserver --v_info (also from the web interface) but not had any error messages show up, it seems that my music files (mp3,ogg & flac) are being scanned but at some point during the scan slimserver just stops running. I have tried deleting my .slimserversql.db file and letting the scan happen automatically but I still get the same result, slimserver dies. I've had the same experience running the scan manually from the web interface.

Other than the scan dying and the database not being fully populated with my music slimserver seems to run ok, I can play music browse the database for music files and such... just when the autoscan happens it dies again.

Is there a better option I should use for logging? Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

Thanks,
Jamie.

Try starting the server with the --d_info option and copy the last
lines from the output, including the error message when it crashes.
Post them here...

--d_scan --d_parse

if you use musicmagic, or itunes add --d_musicmagic and/or --d_itunes

either way, run from the terminal instead of a startup script and watch
the console when it dies. Whatever the crash, you should see some sort
of message. the debug will simply give a better indicator of what
caused the crash and where is was in the scan.

Thanks for the advice, I'd love to report back with an error message, but as it turns out slimserver isn't crashing anymore. I haven't done anything different (well, other than running slimserver.pl from the console with the debugging switches...) but when slimserver runs now it doesn't seem to crash. I'm not sure why I was getting the problem before, or what fixed it but unless it starts happening again I'm not going to worry about it. Sorry about the false alarm.

Cheers,
Jamie
