Hi,

I managed to lock myself out from my SlimServer. How do I either
- set the password or
- disable passwords.

This presumably has something to do with the file
/etc/slimserver.conf ....

yup

kill the server.
find 'authorize' and change that value to zero, then restart the server
that sets it back to no password protection.

you could also delete the references to 'username' and 'password' if you want to
get rid of those settings.

That did it.

Do you happen to know how to set the port number to 80? I was planning to listen to music at work and I think that the corporate firewall blocks most ports. I do not run a web server on the same machine.

in teh conf file, change httpport to 80. make sure it will not be interfering
with any other server on port 80 (like apache) and that you run slimserver with
privileges to open port 80.

You could also use Apache to proxy it to http://your.home.server:80/slimserver/ as described in http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=44229&postcount=8
