To manage compilation albums in the same manner as iTunes.

That is, group them under a compilations heading (when identified as such) and do not display the artist in the list of Artists as a result of a track present in the album.

I can see where you are coming from, but I think that it is fundamental to performing decent searches on artists to include them in the artist list...
I know this means the list grows huge, but sometime you might just want to listen to a track by "x" and a quick artist search will bring up the possibilities. Rather than having to remember that the song you want is within a "compilation" heading...

just my 2 pence' worth!

For searches, definitely list them. Make the information available at the track level in both the web and remote UIs when browsing and when playing. So they need to be in the database as track artists. But exclude them when browsing artists. And, drumroll please....... make it an option. I'm sure that if the current behavior is changed then about 1/2 of SB owners will be screaming bloody murder.

I have a quite a few compilations in my collection which I've just begun ripping and cataloging (knowing that it would be a PITA to tag it all correctly) and the artist list is growing ridiculously large. When browsing artists, including those artists with just one or two tracks in all the thousands of tracks in the collection isn't very user friendly.

There should be a way of tagging (or recognizing) an album as a compilation and then excluding those artists who are only on compilations.

Oh I see what the idea is now!!
At least this way it could be a toggle function to speed up searches when need be!!

Agreed with what's been said here. I would love to be able to browse "artists" and "album artists" as seperate things, but, at a minimum, be able to search through all artists but just browse through artists who have entire albums.

Then I'm sure you feel the pain I have with around 4000 artists from only 10,000 tracks :) Browse by artist is totally useless to me as the list is just too long.
