Is this something in the works ?
It'll be cool if this is so...
My PCs typically hibernate after a period of idle.
The only devices that I would like to be up 24x7 is really my Linksys AP and my DSL modem...
So, it'll be cool if some SB box would work directly off a NAS.

You can also install SlimServer on a Linksys NSLU2 NAS box(check out http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/InstallSlimServer )

I did this and it works great. It uses hardly any power and is completely silent. It might be a little slower to load the slimserver web pages etc. than a full blown PC, but it's not too bad. The 6.1.1 release of slimserver has really sped things up in that regard anyway.

You can also now run SlimServer on The Nexon NAS 1000 device:

0

It's a 1Tb box which has won the PC Plus UK Performance Award in a
stand-alone review featured in their July issue.

Ooops! Word-wrap broke your link!

Assuming 250GB disks, thats 1TB in JBOD mode, 750GB for RAID5, and 500MB
for RAID 1 (mirroring).

Now, with 400GB disks, that becomes 1.6TB, 1.2TB, and 800MB.

Again, the limiting factor is housing large amounts of disks.

I must get myself a rack-mount SATA drive array... :)

I have the Buffalo Terrastation, and it would be nice to get the slim server to run directly on that device. Has anybody tried to get it to work on that device directly?
