Having a party this coming Friday and I want to setup my SB2 to entertain the guests with a nice flow of selected music from my collection.

So what I want is to select a load of albums/singles that I want to be played on the night. I assume I need to create play lists?
Never really used play lists so I am unsure. I also want my selected music to be played randomly - not each individual track but for example if I had 10 albums it would play the albums in a random order. What is the best way for me to set up my party music?

create a playlist and load it up, shuffle by album. You can even find the pref
to save playlist in current order, so that you can shuffle ahead of time if you
like.

another option, section of a portion of your music library, point the server to
only that section and wipe cache. Then use the random plugin in album mode.
The latest version should select a random album and near the end of that album,
it will add one more random album and so on. Smaller playlists that way, but
give it a test run, just in case my code sucks :)

We just had ~10 houseguests this last week, and I found people really
enjoyed picking the music themselves. The first question people seemed
to ask after I explained the setup was how they could put something
on.

I just had an old laptop set out in the living room with the slim
server page as the home page, and people were making their own
selections in no time. I wish I had setup the plugin to lockout
changing settings though as people let their curiosity get the better
for them a few times to the detriment of the server.

Try the "touch pad" skin, nice and user friendly!

There is also a plugin that that accomplishes this.
