It seems that in order for SlimServer to use MusicMagic, MusicMagic must be running before SlimServer starts. But in order for MusicMagic to include SlimServer as a player, it has to see SlimServer running when it starts. Is there some way around this predicament?

I haven't noticed that before, but then again I dont use musicmagic for
controlling the players all that much.

you could try this....

start musicmagic
start slimserver
kill musicmagic
restart musicmagic.

OR

start slimserver
start musicmagic
in slimserver, go into server settings->plugins, disable musicmagic, click
change, then enable and click change (that should reheck for musicmagic).

On my home setup, I leave musicmagic running all the time on a virtual display,
so I never use the gui. I like having the mixer controls :)

It seems like you get more control with the MMM GUI. You can select multiple seed songs, choose more/less like this, replace song/artist, mix into filters, and so on. (Unless I am missing something… I'm still a SB2 newbie!)

I'll probably do something like your first suggestion unless someone has a better suggestion. Maybe I'll post this in the MMM forum too.

access to the MMM filters is coming soon. if time permits, I also hope
to add in player-based prefs and possibly then some sort of player UI.

using playlists as seeds is another request, but I haven't had any
response back from Predixis on a few questions I had about moods and
playlist references. The way slimserver and MMM refer to playlists
doesn't appear compatible on the surface.

Sounds awesome! There are few products that you can buy and say "this just keeps getting better and better!" but I've had it barely a week and I keep saying that about my SB2. :-)

Per chance are you referring to http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=825? Where do I send the beer to? ;-)

no. not even close. I'm talking about having MMM prefs as player settings instead of just server-wide.

per-user profiles would require a complete rewrite of the server, from the ground up with security, concurrent access, user switching, password and preference management.

I'm certainly willing to test any attempt, but I haven't nearly the time or interest in a task like that. it would take a lot more than beer :)

Here's the answer from Whicken over on the MusicMagic board:

If you pass -slim at startup (see http://music.predixis.com/options.html ), then we will add SlimServer as a player, whether or not we detect it.
