I've been mulling over an idea for a plugin (my first) and have a quick question - is there anything stopping a plugin from opening a server socket and listening for incoming connections? Essentially I want to look for network events and do stuff on the squeezebox as a result. I know I could have an offboard process which talked to the slimserver CLI but I'm interested in doing it as a plugin for the educational experience ;)

should be fine. check out how the CLI module opens its socket and
listens for an example of working with the select logic, etc...
