Is it possible to use slimserver on my mac to stream to my shoutcast server that's on a server with a lot more bandwidth..that way i could remote control and have friends listen as well + not have to worry about streaming issues do to slow home internet connection. I have tried searching the forums but came up with nothing pertaining to this subject. It would be really cool if i could listen to my tunes at work and be able to pass out a shoutcast server address for a main stream for everyone else to listen to also.

can your shoutcast server connect to:
http://slimserverIP:9000/stream.mp3 ?

if so, then the server will see the shoutcast server as an http client and you
can select tunes via the web interface and control playback from there.

Well... a Rube Goldberg solution, with so many intermediate steps the
complexity of the edifice would almost be fun in its own right (but
displaying my ignorance of the right way to do this), might be:

SlimServer
->SoftSqueeze (on Mac)
->(captured by) Nicecast [http://www.rogueamoeba.com/nicecast/]
->(streamed to) wherever.

...or, if you have a Mac with a digital in (like a G5 tower)

SlimServer
->actual physical Squeezebox
->(Toslink out to computer Toslink in; captured by) Nicecast
->(streamed to) wherever.

Both seriously suboptimal but constructed of available building blocks.

Now somebody tell how to do it correctly.

I actually do have a G5 with digital in and i HAVE been using the first method with Nicecast, however nicecast costs a bit too much for me to purchase it for these reasons. That is why i was wondering if there was an easier option from within slimserver as i saw one could broadcast to live365.com with the plugin i was surprised there was no option to broadcast to a specified shoutcast server. Is there any other way. Letting your friends build a playlist and listen to your music at work seamlessly in one app such as slimserver, would be phenomenal.

can your shoutcast server connect to:
http://slimserverIP:9000/stream.mp3 ?

if so, then the server will see the shoutcast server as an http client and you
can select tunes via the web interface and control playback from there.

I suppose i could but that would mean i would have to ssh for work into my shoutcast server and edit my config to do so every day and when i get home i woul dhave to do that again to tell it to stream from my other mp3 broadcast program, audion. :(

then use winamp to connect to slimserver, same url. use browser to control, set
the player settings->audio->bitrate limiting to something reasonable for your
connection bandwidth and go for it. Of course, this is optimised for single
use, but slimserver isn't really designed to be a radio station.
