View Full Version : How to reload saved playlist on Squeezebox2?

I am running version SlimServer 6.1b1 on Windows XP and have a Squeezebox2. On the Squeezebox I used the plugin "save playlist" and selected a name to store the playlist. Then I switched to Internet Radio. After that I wanted to reload the stored playlist but it is not shown in the "browse playlist" menu. In SlimServer the playlist is also not shown and in my playlist directory on disk there is also not stored a playlist with the given name.
Has anybody an idea how I can select the stored playlist?

I just recognized that now is a playlist file stored in my playlist directory. However, the playlist is still not shown in "browse playlist" on the Squeezebox and in SlimServer.

if you use the save playlist plugin, it writes directly to disk. Thus, until
there is a rescan, the playlist will not be active in slimserver. please file
a bug report.

actually, I'll file it since I have a patch already and will attach to that while I have a break.

Great! Will that patch be in the nightly builds? I always wanted to ask where I can find information which changes have been made in the present nightly build.

Further, could it be that the same (or a similar) problem exists with the (not official) bookmark plugin? When I create a playlist with this plugin comprising a lot of (>5000) songs it takes a huge amount of time to reload this playlist (maybe since it is only stored on disk but not in the database?). However, different from the problem with the normal save playlist plugin the playlist stored with the bookmark plugin is shown in the Squeezebox and in SlimServer.

possibly.

join the checkins mailing list, or view the cvs archives.

There's a "checkins" mailing list:

http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/checkins

Every checkin triggers a mail with the changes. Fixed bugs should be
mentioned in the descriptions.

Thanks for your answers, I joined the checkins mailing list (I did not know that it exist).

@kdf
Thanks for updating the save plugin and the bookmark plugin. I will test them this evening. The bookmark plugin is a great enhancment.

I just recognized that you are the author of the bookmark plugin so I have two further remarks:

- I looked into the code and saw that there is a string constant prepared for "erasing bookmark..." but a corresponding menu entry is not yet provided. Will this be added in the future? At the moment it is only possible to delete the bookmark on the server.

- It seems to me that only the song but not the position within the song is restored. The descripton says that the position is also restored. All my music is encoded in ogg vorbis, could that be the reason (since fast forwarding within a song is also not possible with ogg vorbis files)?

There really hasn't been any demand for it, until now. Also, new bookmarks are
easily saved overtop. I haven't been planning to do much with it. However,
with the the db code, I'll see what it might take.

Correct. seeking, scanning, etc is only possible for native formats at this
time.
its a server limitation, rather than anything not implemented in a plugin.

Many thanks for the feedback!

I have seen that you have already amended the bookmark plugin :)
Saving the bookmark is ok but when I try to restore the bookmark only an empty playlist is loaded (although the bookmark playlist is not empty as can be seen in SlimServer). It seems to me that you have only amended the saveBookmark procedure but not the restoreBookmark procedure. Shouldn't this procedure also be amended correspondigly?

I tried new version 1.13 of your bookmark plugin but when I try to restore a saved bookmark I still get only an empty playlist.

argh...sorry, minor typo in the file naming.

I downloaded the updated bookmark plugin (1.14) but when I try to restore a saved bookmark I still get only an empty playlist (although the filename typo has been corrected) :(

The stored playlist is not empty since I can load it using browse playlists.

are you saving a new bookmark?

I changed the filenaming style, so previously saved bookmarks won't work

Yes, I completely deleted all playlists and bookmarks and saved a new bookmark. It does neither work with my Squeezebox nor with Softsqueeze.

right, well, I know why this worked for me at least. It works fine once the
playlist is written out to the drive (I'm not sure hoe often, or even IF this
is done right now). The load command assumes the playlist is a file.

There is currently no immediate way to grab a playlist from the db, but it isn't
too hard to do. However, I'm thinking this is a function that really should be
a seemless part of the server. As such, it will take longer to sort out since
its not just me who needs to be thinking it :)

I am confident that you will work it out after some time :)
