Hi all,

I am new to slimserver / squeezebox and media, but pretty seasoned in Unix/*Bsd/linux.

I connected my squeezebox yesterday and the following was very easy to get up and running:

- Flac
- MP3
- APE

The following is giving me grief:

- Ogg/vobis
- Wma

The whole thing is described here with audio files to illustrate the result / intermediate raw etc. (WARNING me playing poorly on an untuned 12 string recorded with a mike on a headset :-)

http://www.barnabas.dk/slim/slim.html

The example illustrates the problems with ogg 2 flac, but I am getting the same whitenoise whizz with wma.

The rest is working 100%

Any ideas?

Easy sollution once found.

I shifted the endian switch to small and all was green.

That leads me to another question:

What is the most efficient for the Squeeze2?:

1)
ogg flc * *
[sox] -t ogg $FILE$ -t raw -r 44100 -c 2 -w -s $-x$ - | [flac] -cs --compression-level-0 --totally-silent --endian little --channel 2 --bps 16 --sample-rate 44100 --sign signed -

2)
ogg flc * *
[sox] -t ogg $FILE$ -t wav -r 44100 -c 2 -w -s $-x$ - | [flac] -cs --compression-level-0 --totally-silent --channel 2 --bps 24 --sample-rate 44100
-

The number two will yield a 24 bit output as far as I can tell, but does that really improve sound?

Nikolaj,

Which endian switch did you need to change? What OS/CPU are you running?

Thanks,

Server is an IBM Netfinity 5000 dual (SMP) with two 500 mhz p-III MMX enabled cpu's.

Os is Freebsd 5.4 stable

You can see the endian settings in the above message
