I am sure there is a way to customize it, but can't figure it out. Hoping someone could help.

When I am browsing through my music in SlimServer UI, say for example, when I click on

Browse Genre\Classical\

on the third level (after classical), I get a list of all the composers, artists, composer etc.... how do i limit what gets displayed on the third level?

So for example, under Browse Genre\Classical\Composers, I get only composers? Possible?

Try server settings/behavior.

Right now, the behavior is like this:

e.g. Browse Genre gives me the following:
Classical \ Artists OR Albums

I want:
Classical \ Composers

Possible?

the server settings can let you choose to include (or not) things like
'composer', 'band', 'conductor' etc as artists. There is no way
currently to choose the reduction based on individual types on
contributors, only artists vs artists et al.

Thanks kdf, i guess that's what I was hoping for. Hopefully in the future, Slimserver will allow users to customize the hireachy structure.

the hierarchy is something that is flexible. It may be possible to
eventually even filter contributor types (which as simple as a
hierarchy config). The limiting factor, really, is the ability to pack
all the configurations that every single user will want into some sort
of simple interface. it is becoming increasingly clear that just about
every single aspect at some point or another will face demands for a
preference. I'm a big fan of lots of options (less automatic
overrides!), but I started feeling the sense of clutter a long time
ago.

You will probably see increasing talk of more and more config files
(the chanting has already started), but this always has the downside of
causing a lot of confusion for those who really desire simplicity,
while at the same time demanding the 'perfect' set of defaults.

If this is an important issue for you, your best plan is to sign up at
http://bugs.slimdevices.com
and file an enhancement request. Pick the best possible categories
from the lists and provide as much clear detail as you can. Others of
like mind will then be able to easily find it and vote on it if it
matters to them as well. Who knows, some third party with a penchant
for a challenge may just whip up a patch.
