I know Itunes is a music management system and slimserver is not. I amtrying to figure out why and how I should use it. Is it two separate processes? Do I have to open Itunes, organize music, open slimserver gui, create playlist, go to slimp3 and play?

Not sure of the whole process.
Can I just open Itunes, create playlist and send it to one of two slimp3s I have?

Just trying to figure out the relationships between them all.

iTunes does not speak to the players. In fact, itunes has little or no
awareness of slimserver or squeezebox at any point. Slimserver loads the data
that is stored by itunes. This includes the tagging that it uses, locations of
music files, playlists and whether or not the tracks are disabled in itunes.

You can create playlists, and if you have 'use itunes' set to yes in the
slimserver server settings, then the server will load the itunes data and the
playlist will become available as an option in browse playlists.

Slimserver is a music library manager, just of a different sort than iTunes. If
you prefer the iTunes interface, then slimserver allows you to work with iTunes
and then having slimserver use that data instead of or in combination with its
own.

You can also download an iTunesUpdate plugin that will export slimserver
activity back into iTunes, such as number of plays of a given track.

I guess the short answer to your question is - you don't have to. If you like iTunes, use it, if (like me) you don't see a need for it, then don't.

may be the short answer - but the question is even more basic than that.
If I like itunes, whar does usng it with slimserver plugin give me?

access to your iTunes playlists (including smart playlists), and (in theory
at least) fewer re-scans ... maybe the artwork gets imported too, though i
don't use iTunes, so am not sure.
