Hi, I've just downloaded and installed SlimServer 6 for my PC, and I'm having a few problems.

When SlimServer started up, I get the following error:

SlimServer has started!
2005-06-10 09:42:04.0937 Problem: There is already another copy of the SlimServer running on this machine. (Unknown error)

I've closed most programs but i'm still getting the error.
Has anyone else had the same problem? I really need help

thanks

When you ran the installer did you leave the 'start automatically' box
checked?
If so it may already be running as a service.

What happens if you enter http://localhost:9000 in your web browser?

Try to open http://localhost:9000 in your browser - you'll see whether
there's a slimserver running or not :-)

If you are on Windows (you don't mention it, do you?), be sure you turn
off the slimserver service before restarting the application manually.

Thanks for the quick replies. I tried restarting, but i can't see anything in my task manager, and the icon does not appear in the system tray.
When I visit http://localhost:9000 in my browser, I get the "Page not found" error

Try control alt delete to bring up the Task Manager
Click on the "processes" tab
find the slim.exe service if you can - if it is there then select it and click on end process at the bottom of the screen that will stop the actual serice as opposed to the web front end

then restart and see what happens

You should find the control panel in something like settings/control
panel/administrative tools/services.

But why would you want to turn it off if it's not running? If you can't
open localhost:9000 there's no slimserver.

Could you run "netstat -a" from the command line to see whether there's
something listening on port 9000?

definitely nothing listening on port 9000, and i've tried an older version of slimserver

i'd already checked the ctl+alt+del list to see anything remotely to do with slimserver it's definitely not running. maybe i should reinstall windows xp...
