View Full Version : Problems to browse and search

Hi all,
I have the challenge that I can "Browse Music Folder" without any problem but when I try to "Browse Album", "Browse Artists", "Browse Artwork", etc. I only see files I have already listened to. Even the search function searches only within files I've played.
FYI: I'm running SlimServer 6.0.2 on RedHat 7.3 with mherger's perl package.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you ever finished a full scan? (Server settings)

(...never say my name when you have a problem... :-))

Michael,
great to see you to help me to get my panties out of a wad again, however your perl package works great :-)

I did a "Rescan" of my music library under "Server Settings" using the webbrowser interface.

Did this help or not? Case closed? Hmm...

Sorry, case not closed - still open...

Did you completely remove the slimserversql.db file once you had updated
perl to 5.8? Give this a try. I usually do this after updating because I
don't know if slimserver likes the mix of the encodings the two versions
use.

Have a look at /etc/slimserver.pref to find you slimserversql.db file.

I don't know if this is of any importance, but I don't have a slimserver.pref file, only a slimserver.conf file. I can't find any hint in the conf-file pointing to an slimserversql.db file and do not have one on my system at all.
I do have a .slimserversql.db file located in /usr/local/slimserver/Cache which I deleted before rebooting the system - but no success at all, same behaviour as described in the beginning.

You've found everything you need :-)

I'm always wrong with this filename, you're right.

That's the file I was talking about.

Hmm... When you access the web interface, do you have that "Your music
library contains x albums with y songs by z artists." line almost at the
top left? As long as slimserver is scanning, it won't be there. Once it
has finished, it should display. Don't shut down your server before the
scan is finished.

You could try to turn on the d_info flag (Server settings/Debugging) and
see if it has problems with reading your files' tags. Do your folders
contain umlauts and other special characters?

Hi Michael,
the status after rescanning:
Your music library contains 0 album with 0 songs by 0 artists.

the status after listening to 1 album:
Your music library contains 1 album with 11 songs by 2 artists.

I do have umlauts, but haven't had a problem with the old SlimServer 5.x version so far.

Some log file entries, which may be important (d_info = 1):

If Dan was reading this thread it would be nice if he jumped in here. Or
anybody else who knows those scanning problems.

I'm sorry, I feel a little lost :-). At first sight I'd say slimserver
does not find any tag information in your files. But that's only a guess...

Excuse my dumb question but the audio files in question are supported by the SlimServer right? Quebel - what types of files do you have in your music collection mp3, wma, flac?

Feel free to ignore me if I'm missing something obvious you've already said!

Best of luck!

Jim

Hi Jim,
plain mp3 - I've had no difficulties with the old 5.x slimserver, however now I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere...

As soon as I listen to a file, I'm able to see it for instance in the artwork, but I have to play it first.

Any help or idea is appreciated.

Thanks,
Carsten

Updating to SlimServer 6.1 solved the browsing problem I've had.
