I have been using the original wired Slimp player for over a year and have had no problems ripping and playing my CDs. I recently started downloading podcasts from the BBC Today program and have been trying to play them using slimserver and Slimp. They seem to play very fast and are over in a second. They are recorded at a bit rate of around 30 - 40kbps. Is this the problem? How can I play them? Thanks

It probably best to get the Today programme over in couple of seconds anyway - so what's the problem? ;-) But seriously, I can't understand why the BBC archive the Today programme on the web, when it's 3 hours every morning, of topical interest only, and you can't even fast forward to the bit you want to hear!

I imagine it is encoded at an unusual frequency or bit rate.
I guess the solution would be to someone transcode it through lame before it is sent to the Squeezebox?

Thoughts?

I am running the latest 6.1 slimserver on Windows XP.
Using the Podcast plugin in this version, the following BBC podcasts play back correctly on my Squeezebox 1:
http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/rmhttp/downloadtrial/radio4/today/rss.xml
http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/rmhttp/downloadtrial/fivelive/sportsweek/rss.xml
http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/rmhttp/downloadtrial/fivelive/fightingtalk/rss.xml

The audio in these Podcasts is mono with a sampling frequency of 32kHz.
May be your Slimp3 player have problems with this format?
Could probably be solved by editing convert.conf in order to force lame to
transcode MP3 into an MP3 format that Slimp3 can decode. But I am afraid
someone else needs to provide the details here...
