View Full Version : can't browse whole alphabet of playlists with remote

Hi. I'm running 5.4.0 and an sb. I can browse artists with the remote
but when I browse playlists using the alphabet keys, I get stuck on
clarence gatemouth brown. No letter after c will get the playlists,
until I get to t and w (keys 8 & 9). I can scroll past C with the arrow
key, but then pressing a letter after C will again bring me back to C.

This same behavior happens when browsing the music folder but NOT for
browsing artists and genres. It also happens if I use SoftSqueeze.

What is this problem and is there a way to fix it under 5.4?

Thanks,

Browse Artist, Genre and Album are alphabetical lists, and are accessible via
the alpha equivalents of the number keys.

Browse Music Folder and Browse Playlists are accessed strictly numericly, where
the entire list is split roughly into 10. The number keys then jump to equally
spaced indices, as opposed to the first letter.

browse and sort options were at their limit with 5.4.0, being very much hard
coded and difficult to change. This was one of the reasons 6.x went to using a
database. If you find that the proportional jumps are not quite right, 5.4.1
may fix that (there were various indexing problems through 5.x but I can't
recall exctly which any longer so I can only say 'may fix').

Well, that's not what I'm seeing. Key 2 gets me only as far as clarence
gatemouth brown, and so does key 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7. Once I get to key 8,
it jumps to The Kinks, while 9 jumps to Wolfgang. I have hundreds of
playlists between clarence and the kinks. Odd, I know, but it happens
this way over and over again.

Damon,

As kdf mentioned, 6.0.1 (or was it .0.2) really improved this
dramatically. I was always disappointed in how the remote jumping
worked with previous releases. It was particularly
bad/confusing/random when using TSOP tags to set the performer/artist
sort order. Starting with 6.0.something some fixes went in that
really made this work perfectly. I would urge you to try out the
newest 6.0 release and see if the problems still occur.
