View Full Version : Remote Delays?

Hi there,

I have my SB2 connected to my XP via a wireless adaptor in Ad-hoc mode. The adaptor on my PC is a USB D-Link 80211g model (running through a USB1.1 socket).

The audio streaming works flawlessly, there is no cutouts, or sound issues at all. However, sometimes the remote acts really slowely to respond. When this happens, it can take several seconds for an action to take place after pressing a button. If you press several buttons during this delay, it stores them, and several seconds later, actions them all at once.

It can be quite frustraiting.

Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be that my 80211g adaptor, runing through a USB1.1 port instead of USB2 does not have the required bandwidth? Or could it be a problem with the Ad-hoc arangement?

I have this issue's too when using XP as server. When I serve via a linux box the response is much faster. Maybe is has something to do with the infrastructure of XP.

I also see this on XP - SqueezeboxG seems very sluggish when I haven't
used the server for a while.

Something to do with memory being swapped out perhaps?
(SlimServer process loses about 40Mb of memory in Task Manager when it's
inactive.)

On the other hand my old character display Squeezebox seems much quicker
from the same server?

OK, I see this too - since upgrading from 5.4.1 to 6.0.1 (released) - I use
a dual PIII-733 box running Windows 2000 Pro in 1GB of RAM.

I notice it particularly when navigating from Browse Music, Via Browse
Artists to the list of artists. A several second delay (may be up to 5)
whereas it used to be nearly instant on 5.4.1.

I can confirm that this is the same on SB2, SB1 and Slimp3 (all running from
the same server).

Richard,
I suspect that's a slightly different problem - if you run with --d_info
enabled you can see the server is doing a lot of validation behind the
scenes (I have no idea why this is necessary)

Well, it's good to see that I'm not the only person having this problem.

I have had to update to the beta 6.1.0 tonight because of another issue and this upgrade didn't solve the problem.

Of note, my machine isn't the fastest, it's a 1ghz Athlon, 1 gig RAM, XP Pro machine (with loads of HD space free), but this is the only speed issue I have with it.

Seems to be a bug. Is there a bug reporting part to this here forum?

Thanks all for your reply's.

well doesn't totally freeze but overnight it might lose 5 hours or so. press any button and it could take minutes for the sb2 to respond and the clock to count up to the correct time. very very strange.

running 6.0.1 and winxp with lots of cpu, mem and hd space

I've seen the same symptoms as you. But my server is a 533MHz mini-ITX with just 256MB RAM running Win2000 Pro. As well as SlimServer, it's running a Xitami web server, an Oracle database, and it's the household email & print server. So if hardware limitations were the cause, then I'd expect my server not to work at all! But it does, despite the fact that it's playing OGG files (which I understand consume the most CPU to decode).

I experience this as well running SlimServer 6.0.1 on a WinXP P4 3.2Ghz, 1 GB RAM, SATA RAID drives. Just received my SB2...
