View Full Version : Date and Time Screensaver Gone

I'm running a Squeezebox1 on a Windows XP system. I'm using a
recent 6.01 nightly (from a week ago or so.) Everything has
been functioning normal using this nightly up until last night.
Last night I noticed when I turn my player off it displayed
something to the affect that my screensaver needed a
Squeezebox2. I went into SlimServer's Player Screensaver
settings and noticed the Power Off Screensaver was set to some
kind of meter. Normally I have it set to display the date and
time and it had been set that way until last night. I went to
change it back and noticed there is no option for date and time.
There are a couple of Now Playing selections as well as a few
meters but no option to display the date and time. I'm just
going from memory but I believe that used to be an option and I
know that's what it had been displaying up until last night. Is
this setting somewhere else?

This is really starting to bug me. I've been through every
server and player setting. I cannot find a way to have it
display the date and the time with the player is turned off. I
know it can do this because it did up until last night. I've
been messing with some fonts and the status_header in the
Fishbone skin. Other than that, I've made no changes (haven't
installed a new server version in a week or two and it had been
showing the date and time under that version.) I've tried every
other skin and the option for date and time screensaver does not
appear in those either.

It's in the Player Settings section under the screensavers heading.

e.g.

Choose a screensaver to use when playing:
Choose a screensaver to use when not playing:
Choose a screensaver to use when powered off:

If this doesn't work or you have problems setting this then it will be best to set SlimServer to "forget" the player and then configure it again.

The time and date option is no longer available under my
player's screensaver selections. All that is there is:

-Analog VU Meter
-Digital VU Meter
-Spectrum Analyser
-Now Playing
-Now Playing (Jump Back On Wake)

I tried your suggestion to have it "forget" my player and
reconfigure it. That did not work either. I then downloaded
the latest nightly and installed it. Still no date and time
option is available.

As I said, this worked fine up until last night. I forgot to
mention that I did change my player's name last night (from
"Squeezebox" to "Living Room".) I'm not sure how that would
screw anything up. For grins, I tried changing the name back to
"Squeezebox" but that didn't help.

It's a plugin - check server settings/plugins whether it has been disabled.

Todd,

I see Datetime Screensaver as the first choice in both the web and
player Screensaver settings with the latest 6.0.2 nightly (and have
seen it in previous releases).

Can you list the items that you do see in the list of screensavers?

I've got this same behavior. Absolutely no option for the date and
time screensaver. No plugin. Turning off the SB2 flashes the time and
then it goes black.

Not good....

I was able to rectify this by removing my ~/Preferences/Slim Devices
folder (this is on OS X Server), at which point the RSS and DateTime
screensavers appeared in the pop-up.

If anyone at Slim Devices would like to see my preferences file or
folder, just ask.

Yes - please send it along.

Thanks.

You know, for kids.

My bothers kids are over here and I showed them one time how to play music on my Slimp3 player. They are about 10 and 12 years old. I went to work and when I got home it looked like it had no power no display because it all ways shows the date and time when the power is off. I unpluged the power and back in. As soon as it said looking for a DHCP server it went blank. I found out it worked if I turned it on. So the display works. I then know the date and clock was turn off some how. I asked the kids if they turn it off. They don't know. I guess they did some thing that turn it off. I went in the settings and every place I can think of and can't turn it on. I went to:

"SLIMP3 Home (7 of 7)
Settings"

"Settings (10 of 12)
Screensaver (off)"

"Screensaver (off)
Date and Time"

I can press any thing on the remote and it just stays off! The text will move about half a letter over for a sec. But that's it. I even went to port 9000 to see if I could set it in there but I can't find were.

I did the plug in Date and time and if I keep it on and do nothing after about 1 min. It shows the Date and Time just like it did when I had the power off.

When it's off it is blank!

How do I get it back? Looks like no one on this forum has said how and the last message is back in May and this is Auguest!

I search this Forum again and found that is you press the Brightness button when the power is off it will turn on or off the date and time when the power is off.

That's a good way to do it. But it would be good to if you could turn it off and on in settings like here:

"SLIMP3 Home (7 of 7)
Settings"

"Settings (10 of 12)
Screensaver (off)"

"Screensaver (off)
Date and Time"
