View Full Version : Birography Question

I installed Biography plugin, and it appears to have installed fine.
But, under Help > Biographies, all I get is: 'Could'nt find any
information'.

Am I doing something wrong?

No, this can have various reasons: may be it does not find the artist, or
there's a timeout while downloading the information.

If you start Slimserver running "slim.exe -d_plugins" from the command
line, you should get a lot of debugging messages. What do they say? What's
the artist's name? Could you try with another artist? And what server
version are you using?

I'll release a new version for slimserver 6.1 which should come with a
little more explicit messages.

Maybe I just don't know how to use it. Should there be artists listed
under Help > Birography? Or do I have to go to Brows Artist, then go
to Help > Biography?

I'll try the debug as well.

Thanks!

You can't be wrong: go to the Biography page and it will display whatever
information it finds about the currently played artist. It's only looking
for music that's currently playing.

Hi,

I installed this plugin after seeing it in the thread (also the p/w protect one - which is super!). My problem is that I don't see it appear in my plugins list?

I've installed it to /usr/local/slimserver/Plugins/Biography/ - and tried restarting the server, but nothing.

This is the latest 6.1 nightly.

Any ideas?

If you're on Windows: did you install the MHCPAN stuff (available from my
site)? The plugin needs some modules which are not built in.

Nope - this is on Linux (Fedora).

Do I need to do anything special on this platform?

Thanks,
Chris.

Run "slimserver.pl -d_plugins" from the shell. This will give you some
feedback while loading and running plugins. What does it say about the
biography plugin?

(if anyone is reading this in the forum, it doesn't make much sense - although my posts are appearing in the news interface quickly, Michaels replies seem to be lost somewhere!)

Hi - here's the output. I think you're right, I'm missing something - just not quite sure what (or how to get it).

Many thanks to Michael, a:

perl -MCPAN -e shell
cpan> install HTML::FormatText

got things working just fine.

Chris.
