Hi,

A n00bie to the SlimServer - so this maybe a real obvious question:-

I am trying to get serverside playback working on my music server at my
house. I have been using Globecom jukebox which used the server's
soundcard to play the stream and am trying to do something similiar with
SlimServer. I have the streams to my desktop and laptop working great -
this software really rocks! Here's my issue though!

Basically, I have a local list active and can playback locally on the
server using this command:
/usr/bin/mplayer http://localhost:9000/stream.mp3

This works great except that it ignores any playlist commands like skip,
play, pause etc. When I clear the play list from the browser it keeps
playing. I switched over to mpg123 on the serverside for playback - it's
a little better although it drives the utilization up to near 100% when
the list ends. Anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Again - I am a n00bie so if I'm missing something real obvious let me know!

Thanks,

Jim

Been a while since I've tried that, but there used to be some
command-line player emulators for Unix. Also, search the archives for
Softsqueeze and headless -- IIRC, there was work done to make
Softsqueeze work without the UI.

In short, you need a full-functioned player to get all the commands.

slimp3slave (http://www.ex-parrot.com/~pdw/slimp3slave/) - I'm still using
it together with madplay.

IIRC when using the mp3 stream you cannot skip or fastforward through it, in the same way that you cannot FFW and RWD a transcoded stream on the Squeezebox/Slimp3.
