I am pleased to report my SB2 arrived yesterday and I had it playing music within 10 minutes. Fantastic bit of kit, love the display!

The only issue I have come across so far is when you turn the SB2 off, it goes it clock mode which is very nice.
However, I tend to turn my PC (where my music is stored) off at night which I did and SB2 stopped displaying the clock and displayed a message about connecting to slimserver.

This message (after a long time) disappeared and the display went completely blank like there was no power.

This morning I turned my computer on and slim server loaded, went to my SB2 which is in the kitchen (display still blank) and tried to turn it on via the remote and nothing. I had to disconnect the power plug on the back and reconnect it for SB2 to turn on. Its fine and is playing music ok but surely when you turn it off and it displays the clock it should continue to display the clock when slim server (my pc) is switched off. It should only complain about not being connected when it needs to connect to play music. Any ideas?

The SB is completely server driven. The device itself does not contain
much functionality. Even the clock is powered by your server.

This might change with the upcoming SqueezNetwork which will allow you to
use the devices without having a server on at all the time.

the clock display is created and updated by the slimserver. ALL display info,
save for the fast scroll animations are controlled by the server. The
Squeezebox2 is a 'slim' device (ie, no standalone operation). If the server is
off, so is SB2. It should, however, reconnect when you start up the server
again. That could be network settings, or possibly a bug. I've not left my
server off all night, but it has been off for some extended periods and does
reconnect. When Squeezenetwork is announced/released you will have the option
to connect to that instead of your own slimserver with any SB2 device.

This does happen if the computer is off (or even asleep) for a long time.

Unless there is something really wrong this is not needed (at least
for Squeezebox 1, I don't have 2), but the right thing to do is not
obvious.

The first secret is to press and HOLD the power button. This will
bring up a message saying Restarting ... After a while it will say
"To begin setup, press right arrow" (or similar words). The second
secret is NOT to press the Right arrow key but just to wait. The
Squeezebox will run through the setup process on its own and end up
reconnected but with power off (with some setups it fails to connect
to the wireless network the first time, but in my experience always
succeeds the second time).

This sounds similar to an issue that appears connected to 6.0.1.

Almost every morning I wake up to see my two wireless SB1s blank and my
wireless SB2 still connected. I have to press and hold power on the two
SB1s. It's weird because the computer is on all night; not asleep. And,
the server is still running. Plus, SOMETIMES one of the SB1s is still
connected.

I suspect they all get disconnected but only the SB2 recovers.

Any thoughts on a solution in the works?

Another weird fact is that this almost never occurred when I just had 1 SB1
wireless and one SB1 wired. Then again, that was back when I was running
5.4.+

Thanks,
Phillip

Thanks for the replies guys, at least I know its not just an issue with me. I do tend to turn my computer off at night so it would be nice if SB2 could not complain about but its not really a big issue. I will try holding the power button as disconnecting the mains every time is a pain in the a**.

What is slimnetwork then?

http://www.slimdevices.com/pi_overview.html - this at least tells you what
it _will_ be. It's basically a service for SB2 users which will allow you
to listen to online streams, use the alarm clock and other stuff without
your own local slimserver.

Looks very good but I cannot get broadband here :(
Maybe in a year or two!

By the way, I tried the holding the power on button and nothing happens. SB2 is dead & the only way I can get it on again is to disconnect/reconnect the power cord ???

56k should be enough to keep the clock alive :-).

Something's not right. How long are you holding the button? It will
take 5 full seconds to restart the player.

You shouldn't have to restart a Squeezebox2 at all, in any case. When
your server comes back, the player should reconnect.

What kind of network connection are you using and what make/model
devices are you using?
