View Full Version : Alien BBC on Win2k. Frustrated!

I'm not having much success getting AlienBBC to work on a Windows 2000 SP4 box.

Running the following:

Slimserver 6.01

MPlayer-mingw32-1.0pre6.zip extracted into C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread

windows-all-20050412.zip codecs extracted into C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\codecs

alienbbc_0.97.windows.zip extracted into C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\Plugins\Alien

I also have lame.exe and lame_enc.dll extracted into C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\Bin, for what it's worth (a suggestion from this forum, rather than any documented installation procedure).

Currently, I get the AlienBBC option on my Squeezebox (SB1), and a long list of available BBC stations and programmes to listen to, but when I try to play a BBC selection I get 'Connecting to play' followed by an error that I can't read (possibly something about '...connect to server from:'?) immediately followed by 'Stopped'. Nothing ever plays.

All other radio plugins provided with Slimserver are working fine (ie no network problems).

Very grateful for any suggestions...

I suggest moving this discussion to the plugin list/forum

Quick pointer - could you make sure alienbbc_0.97.windows.zip is extracted into C:\ProgramFiles\SlimServer\server (as it contains
the relavent directories and also contains files which must go in the server root directory.)

If it does not work please post the output when you start the server with --d_remotestream --d_source when you try to play
something.

Thanks for the response. Have unzipped the Alien distribution in C:\ProgramFiles\SlimServer\server again, but still getting the same symptoms.

When I start Slimserver as suggested, I get:

Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at /PerlApp/Slim/Player/Pipeline.pm line 58.
Use of uninitialized value in subroutine entry at /PerlApp/Slim/Player/Pipeline.pm line 70.

...when I try to connect to a BBC feed. Any ideas?

cheers

Looks like your slimserver is struggling to find socketwrapper.exe.

Are you using a 6.0+ server? If not could you install try Alien 0.95 or earlier which includes this file.

You're right - I was missing socketwrapper.exe. Funnily enough, it was one of the things I checked a few hours ago, and it was there at that time - I guess I've tried so much reinstalling over the past few hours that it got lost.

Anyhow - I've reinstalled Slimserver 6.01, and it's now back. Unfortunately, the symptoms remain the same - although I'm not getting any message in the debug window now.

If it helps, when I try:

"mplayer -really-quiet -vo null -cache 32 rtsp://rmlivev8.bbc.net.uk/farm/*/ev7/live24/radio4/live/r4_dsat_g2.ra"

I get BBC Radio 4 running through my PC speakers without problem.

Let move this discussion to the plugin forum [attempting to reduce the plugin related noise here] Could you post the output with
the debugs asked for before on that?

Sure - I'll do that now. Could you let me know which debugs you'd like? And where I'd find them? As I said - the debug window is now empty (save for "SlimServer has started!") when I try listening to a feed.
