Hi. For reasons best kept to myself I have decided to 'port' my mp3 collection over from Windows to Mac. The slimserver (5.4.1 for win xp on original Squeezebox) always worked superbly.
My first try at installing slimserver (6.0!! - i realise this is not the correct version to be using) for os X (Panther), the "web access" button was greyed out - why can't I see this? I then tried 5.4.1 and have the same problem. In addition, the squeezebox does not pick up the server - prompts me to enter dhcp address manually but this doesn't work either.
What on earth am I missing?

My plan is to keep the mp3s stored on a lacie ext hard drive and have them streaming from this drive via my mac attached to the network.

Any thoughts/ideas very welcome.
Regards
skellis

I have the same set-up as yourself and mine works in both 5.4 and 6.0
so it does work.
The web access button is greyed out because the the server is not
running.
There should be a start server button, click it and wait for a few
seconds for the server to start up.
If this doesn't work try re-installing the server (5.4.1 or 6), use
install preference pane for all users and enter your admin login. You
are admin of the computer aren't you?
Then set the start slim server to when I log in.
If this does not work try repairing permissions with disk utility.
Once you get the server working you can change settings to allow for
your music to be on an external HD.
Let us know how you get on.

Thx Steven
Have got the server working - now just to change the settings so that the server can find the songs on the external HD. Have adjusted the iTunes settings in the SimDevice web access page... However, doesn't seem to find any of the songs.
Have given the xml location as being:
/Volumes/160Gb/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml - does that look about right?
And iTunes music folder as:
/Volumes/160Gb/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music
I figure I am close here - but no cigar.
Regards

Interesting... That looks right. Does everthing work in iTunes itself? If
so, did you try to let the SlimServer automatically find the iTunes
library? That works well for me.

My .xml is on my internal HD in my home folder. ie

/imacG4/Users/steven/Music/itunes/iTunes Music Library.xml

and the music folder is on the external HD ie

/Volumes/media/itunes

So if you look in the Music folder in your home folder it should be
there.
Point the .xml location to there and hit rescan. I think the music
folder path on the external is okay.

Please don't do this.

The iTunes scanner will find your moved location automatically, assuming you
changed the location of the Music Folder in iTunes.

Changing these settings will only break things.

We're going to be reworking those settings as to be clear on what they're for.
