I just received this email:

You are receiving this email because you ordered a Squeezebox 2 Platinum player at time when we expected to ship the product eminently. Unfortunately we have encountered an extended delay on the Platinum cases which will not be resolved for at least a month. We recognize the inconvenience this must be causing you and as such, we would like to offer you the option of switching to a Black case (available for immediate shipping).

-If you want to switch to a Black case you will receive a $20.00
discount and it will ship immediately. If you would like to do this please reply to this email to inform us as soon as possible.

-If you would like to wait for the Platinum cases to arrive, you do not need to respond to this email.

================================================== ===============

This was ordered about 1 weeks ago and will be my fourth player. A little disappointed that I was lead to believe that the player would ship within a couple of days (according to the web site when I placed the order). Why does the web site still say on 6-7 days until product ships? Seems very misleading to the general public at this point since they know it will be at least 1 month!

give me a break...
it probably means just what they said, something has happened. the cases
probably came back with crappy paint jobs and they woudln't want to send them
out substandard. it happens, and a company can only be honest about having a
delay. at least you have been told. at no point have you been 'mislead'.
just bad luck all around

I never said I was mislead if you took the time to read the post. What I said was it is misleading to the general public say that the product will ship in 6-7 days if they know if will take over a month.

I'm sure they just haven't got around to updating the web site yet.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm happy they took the trouble to email me. They informed me promptly and gave me a very amenable option to get a black one instead.

As kdf said, supply problems happen. The honest course is to admit it and that's what they've done, even going so far as to estimate when it will be sorted out: you really can't ask more than that.

I always prefer honest estimates to over-optimistic ones (conservative estimates are the only conservative thing I like). If someone says I'll get something in a week and it hasn't arrived after two, I'm unhappy. If they ask me to allow 28 days and it comes in two weeks, I feel I have been especially well looked after.

The more dealings I have with these guys, the more I like them. (Now go and update your web site! :) )

Totally agree, can't ask for much more from a company. I'm going to see if Multitask could swap my order over a black wireless as I'm beginning to forget what music I've got and I may have to resort to finding CD's and putting them in the stereo !!!

Just a matter of time before someone suggests the $20 discount is applied to
everyone's order. (I don't believe this by the way)

Thanks,
Phillip

I think it's very nice that they offered the $20 discount. I've
had stuff get backordered on me before and I can't think of one
time I was offered any kind of discount for the inconvenience.

Once all the backorders are out of the way and they have some stock,
I'd be interested in buying a Platinum case as an upgrade.

This is sort of off-topic, but what is the excitement about
all the stereo equipment going platinum? In my home theater,
platinum colored components are downright distracting.
I've actually replaced all my gear with basic black.
I even have it all behind a smoked glass door. The platinum
stuff reminds me of the cheap junk sold at the "consumer"
level by the likes of panasonic and pioneer back in the early
80's. Seemed like as much of a fad then as now...

Personally, I'm not that keen on the matt texture of the black
squeezebox. Platinum seems to be the next best choice although I would
prefer a nice black gloss finish.

You'd probably hate my main music system (purchased about 7 years ago):

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. :) I think it looks pleasantly retro.

It does, in a geeky sort of way ;-) I do like that huge volume
knob in the middle. Cranking up the volume with push
buttons on some of the newer gear doesn't have the same
feel.

I guess it all depends on the use. I like my stuff to just blend
into the background in my theater room. Maybe when I get
a plasma TV, it will probably be all silver, so I guess I'll be
"ponying up" the dollars for a platinum sb2!

That's exactly right. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks, and done!
