So my SB is due for delivery in a day or two and I have just found out what the vat is and it well bring the total cost of the SB including delivery to $420!

Quite a lot really! Any chance Slim D could organise a distributer in Europe. Perhaps Amazon.co.uk ?

My Countries reseller doesn't seem to have any SD products even though they list SD.

I ordered from Mulitask Computing in the UK to Sweden although the £ is
really high. I don´t know where you are, but VAT and customs are not
applied within the EU.

Multitask Computing gives excellent service and I reckon Stuart is
lurking on this list as well.

Where are you, 'orb'?
You mentioned amazon.co.uk & VAT so I guess people assumed you were in
the UK?
If you're in the EU, buying from any EU based reseller should avoid
taxes.

James

VAT certainly will be applied to anything sold from the UK to the EU.

Sorry mea culpa, I meant prices within the EU are normally quoted
inclusive of VAT and that the customs people will not charge VAT on top
of difference fees and levies that will apply to imports of electronics
from the US.

However, I recently ordered some electronics from another retailer in
the US. The shipment was handled by UPS. Upon receipt I noted that the
retailer had labelled the shipment as "documents" in order to avoid
customs. Smart.

I recently got into an argument with UK customs after they charged me
300% of the items value, it took me about 3 months but after proving the
actual value of the item they refunded the entire amount. I'd suggest
that you contact your local customs office to query the amount.

Hi guys

I am in Ireland.
I was tracking my shipment via UPS's site and it arrived at the local airport this morning and the tracking said it had been held back and delivery was to be rescheduled. Phoned UPS and they seemed to think I should have it tomorrow but the VAT would be just over 70 Euros.

I found SB2 on a UK site going for around £190. I always thought that members of the EU were free to shop with any of its members without paying import duty but I am not too sure?

I ordered from Slim thinking that buying direct would be the best option but it's probably cost me £30 or £40 more :(

No import duty or additional VAT to pay on anything sold from one EU
country to another. The only difference will likely be higher
shipping costs as couriers international rates are always more
expensive.

Well if you need another one try www.multitask-computing.co.uk as
mentioned by somebody else. I got mine for the same price as my SB1
for £148.99 including postage. This was displayed on the Multitask
website though "We will ship to EU countries subject to cleared funds
upon request, but we are unable to ship to destinations outside the
EU". So I guess that postage may be a little more to Ireland, but
still probably cheaper than the buying from the US.

£190 seems a little excessive for the UK.

dabs.com has had them for a little less but their supply seems to be
very intermittent at best. Multitask have provided a very good service
in my opinion. I'm just hoping they con drop the price a little on
their Trinloc DAB receiver (nudge nudge if Stuart is lurking!).

Hi Richard (and Johan) and thanks for the vote of confidence. Much
appreciated.

I'd love to be able to drop the price on the Trinloc, but it's set by the
manufacturer and the margin is teeny, so it won't be dropping in the
foreseeable future. On the plus side, it works! I've been using a demo unit
for weeks now, with no major problems - on a (frankly flaky) PC with XP SP2
and the dreaded VIA USB chipset.

We can ship to Ireland (North via DHL, or South via Parcelfarce), the cost
varies according to number of units ordered.
